Does having a fuel filter that is not being changed make the truck burn more gas?

I had my fuel filter changed today and my mechanic said that it was really really really really bad. I guess the didn't do that at my last tune up. Will I get better gas mileage now?

It should not make it that much worse for gas mileage but it is easier on the fuel pump and the ECU to give a proper air fuel mixture. On the GM truck Models I see the gas that I pour out on the filtered side come out Black, a lot. Fuel filters should be changed every 15 to 30K , the book says 15.000 but for sure at 30k.

lack of fuel going to carb or throttle body causes the computor to adjust for flow which woul d cause more fuel mileage loss replacin git would only make it better
