rinse out with diesel fuel if you have to. but why a new one is so much safer and cheaper in the long run
What will help clean ot a fuel filter besides changing it?
I am working in Iraq right now and we use fuel and an air compressor with low pressure blow it out while it is setting in a small pan of fuel it'll usually get most of the trash out if you can't get a replacement. If you can I recommend replacing it cause it'll eventually ruin your fuel pump.

take it off and throw in wash machine ///cmon buy a filter
The fibers in the filter begin to frey also, reducing the flow, buy a new one.
gasoline and also carburator cleaner.you can use wd-40,liquid wrench or you could use plain o water.just blow all of the water out of the filter before you put it back in if it's th type of filter you can do that with.you will still have to replace it soon or later.remember......safe now.......sorry later.
I would personally change it for fear of breaking lose dirt and grime and sending the remains into your engine. Of course, I could be totally wrong so maybe I should be just quite... but that's my 2 cents! :)
Just buy a new one. They're cheap!
if you go to that much bother to remove it then you might as well change it for all they cost.
Don't even bother with trying to clean it. Just buy a new one. If your stuck somewhere with a clogged filter you could use compressed air, gasoline, or carburator cleaner to try to rinse it out. BUT I would run the stuff through the opposite way of the normal flow, knocking it loose instead of jamming and packing it tighter. If you do use something other than gas rinse it out a little with gasoline. I would NOT recommend using water. It could be done but you would have to leave it out to dry for sometime. or you will end up with water in your engine and or filter causing undesired performance and or rust. Also water will clean off dirt, but petrol build up will just displace water. But overall, there is no substitute for replacing your fuel filter. Cleaning it should only be done in emergencies, when you cannot get a new filter and you absolutely have to drive the vehicle.
