Do you have to bleed a ford fiesta diesel turbo after changing the fuel filter its a y reg. thanks jeff?

please help me some one
Do you have to bleed a ford fiesta diesel turbo after changing the fuel filter its a y reg. thanks jeff?
You don't have to, but it will make the engine start a lot faster the first time you run it after changing the filter.
Do you have to bleed a ford fiesta diesel turbo after changing the fuel filter its a y reg. thanks jeff?
The answer is NO you dont!!!! They are self bleeding.

BUT on saying that depending on age some have a pump fitted to the top of the diesel filter housing, you can't miss it as it is black round plunger, but these also give problems, what I have had in the past is you change the filter and when you try to prime it, it then leaks diesel allowing air to enter the system and they dont start very well.

Not telling you how to suck eggs make sure all the seals on the filter are good as an air leak will really affect it

I hope that helps
Yes vane pump in the injection pump wont lift air, easy way is undo main fuel feed pipe to the injection pump banjo union and use primer on top of filter head to pump fuel through till all the air is purged, tighten banjo union give a few more pumps on primer and the motor will fire.Ford primers are prone to splitting and if that's the case either blow compressed air into the tank to push the fuel through, buy a new primer(expensive) or get your gob round the pipe and suck it through.not a nice taste but at least your car will start
Helps if you fill the filter with fuel before you refit. System should self bleed but it may also help if you loosen one of the injector pipes to allow the air to clear more quickly.
it does help, yes, but if you wind it over and over it should self bleed.
Yes you will.

  • Is it hard to change the fuel filter on a 2002 sunfire?

Its a 2002 sunfire 2.2L non-ecotec. And where is the fuel filter located at?
Is it hard to change the fuel filter on a 2002 sunfire?
On your 2002 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2L SFI , the Fuel Filter is located:

Under vehicle, center, below rear seating area, rear passenger side of fuel tank, mounted in fuel line

You have to depressurize the fuel injection pressured lines first so that the gasoline doesn't squirt all over and in your face when you disconnect the fuel filter. I recommend having it done at an independent garage. Unless you've run out of or real low on gas or have over 50,000 miles on the filter, I wouldn't bother replacing it yet. I change mine at 80,000 miles and have never had a problem. Your owner's manual probably does not specify a fuel filter change interval and many people will change them at much lower mileages because they simply don't know when they need changing!
Is it hard to change the fuel filter on a 2002 sunfire?
It's not hard it is under the car at the rear on the left all you'll need is a 5/8s and a 3/4 %26quot; wrenches and a drain bucket

It will only take ya about 20-35 mins. for the first time and maby 10-15 the next time.

if you'r doing the fuel filter it would be a good idea to do the air as well if you have'nt and do this every 20k mils or once a year the filters are what $40.00 for the two a pump is between 3-750 dollars ouch

and don't let your gas get below 1/4 tank it's the fuel that keeps the pump cool and lubed and the more fuel in the tank the less you stir up durt and or sand in the tank

    hope this helps

    GOOD LUCK BRAD A

I cant get my chevy s10 started no fuel replaced pump changed relay no fuel to fuel filter

changed pump changed relay changed filter still no fuel to the filter cant change fuel pump again 400 dollars need a quick fix
I cant get my chevy s10 started no fuel replaced pump changed relay no fuel to fuel filter
You have done a lot of work to be stuck with no fuel. Here's what i would do first,1. Check the fuse to the pump,if the fuse show to be good check it with a test light to make sure your getting fire,If you have fire there, thenpull the relay out and check to see if you have fire ,if you have fire there go back to the fuei tank with the key on and check to see if there fire in the wire(plug)By the way the key need's to be on during all these test. If it turn's out that there's fire at all these place's , then the only other thing you could do is drip the tank again and make sure that the wiring did'nt come a loose. Just take your time and check all these place's and you'll get it going again.
I cant get my chevy s10 started no fuel replaced pump changed relay no fuel to fuel filter
If you hear the pump humm for a couple of seconds when you turn the key from the off position to run, your wiring and pump should be fine. If you do not hear the humm, you should check the power and ground suppy at the pump with a test light and repair the wiring/fuses if there isn't voltage when you turn the key.

If the pump is working, and your fuel supply has a return line (and I think it does), pinch off the return line (if it doesn't kink) and try to start, if it does start, you'll need a fuel pressure regulator.

If the fuel is a returnless (no return line) or you pinched off the return line, the pump works, and you still can't get it started, check the power and ground at the injectors using a check light. If there is no flash of light while you attempt to start, you have an open in the circuit, whether its wiring or bown fuses. If there is power at the injectors, there is the slim chance all of them are junk, check the resistance of the injectors with an ohmmeter and compare them to specs, replace as necessary.

    best of luck

This may seem a little obvious, but maybe you should check your pickup in the tank itself.

If a piece of rust or paint has been sucked into the intake end or clogged the mesh on it, that would sure stop any gas getting through.

If the electric checks above show all okay, check the tank itself.
    check your fuses and relays

I have a 99 cavalier and it wont stay running.. we changed fuel filter and o2 sensor and checked fuel pump?

the fuel pump is good and it isn'tt the oxygen sensor. i really need my car does anyone know anything.. please dont leave anything dumb i only need help not sarcasm.
I have a 99 cavalier and it wont stay running.. we changed fuel filter and o2 sensor and checked fuel pump?
Did you check your fuel pressure regulator? Fuel filter? Have a kinked line somewhere or other restriction? My gut feeling (which isn't always right, but often is) is that fuel is somehow restricted or choked out. I am assuming that you could keep the engine running if you kept your foot on the gas pedal.

Next thing is a vacuum leak... look at the line going to your PCV valve for starters, then inspect all of the vacuum lines going out of the intake manifold. Check any elbows (sharp bends) in the hoses for cracks. Make sure they are all firmly seated on whatever they are connected to. A leak in the line going to your PCV valve, for example, can cause your car to sputter and die out at an intersection. Make sure your PCV valve rattles when you take it out, or else it's not working.

Check your air intake to make sure it's not clogged. Your car needs air to breathe, a constant unrestricted supply of fuel, and spark to run.

While probably not the case, you might have a sticking IAC (idle air control) valve. Often, but not always, those can be cleaned if you can remove the valve part from the motor part. Getting cleaner down in the motor is a no-no.

    Hope this helps!

    Robert
I have a 99 cavalier and it wont stay running.. we changed fuel filter and o2 sensor and checked fuel pump?
clean IAC and check fuel pressure

these are the most usual causes for hard starting,/bad idling and/or dying

  • I have a 1996 nissian maxima automatic v6 and it will not rev past 2500 rpms. Changed fuel filter and injector

    any help would be appreciated.
I have a 1996 nissian maxima automatic v6 and it will not rev past 2500 rpms. Changed fuel filter and injector
Rev limited at 2500 rpm? Ninja please. the most likely cause is the catalytic converter is restricted. Since air can't get out of the engine, air can't get in and it will only accelerate to the point where the exhaust back pressure overcomes the intake air charge. It could also be the fuel pump has insufficient pressure/volume. I have also seen ignition control modules cause an engine to not rev past a certain point.
I have a 1996 nissian maxima automatic v6 and it will not rev past 2500 rpms. Changed fuel filter and injector
ever been tuned? if over 100K it sure needes it...check tranny fluid
What kind of sound does the engine have when it hits 2500 rpms? Have you EVER heard it go above 2500 rpms? It may have a manufacturer's built-in rpm limit device.

What is the fair price to change my fuel filter?

I will buy a fuel filter for my Honda Accord 88 (Carbureted) and my friend is asking $50 to install it. Is that the fair price? Where is the fuel filter located? Do I need a professional to do that? Can I just do it?
What is the fair price to change my fuel filter?
Thats a little high for a friend job. But I do agree with R1, Your vehicle has a primary and secondary filter and you should change both of them. I think the 3rd filter would be the one inside the fuel tank. The primary is in the rear of the car mounted in a bracket at the corner of the fuel tank and the secondary one is in the fuel line near the Carb.
What is the fair price to change my fuel filter?
THIS IS A SIMPLE THING TO DO JUST TELL YOUR FRIEND THAT U CAN DO IT YOUR SELF ALL U NEED IS A WRENCH THAT FITS THE FILTER THAT IS LOCATED RIGHT BELOW THE CARBURATER AND IT LOOKS LIKE A STEEL CYLINDER THAT GOES RIGHT INTO THE CARB ALL U DO IS LOOSEN THE LINE FITTING AT BOTH ENDS AND ONE END AT CARB AND ONE END AT LINE THAT GOES INTO IT AND REMOVE IT AND REPLACE IT WITH THE NEW ONE BE SURE THAT THE FLOW IS GOING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION OR U WILL NOT GET THE ENGINE T0O START IT SOULD SHOW AN ARROW ON IT...GOOD LUCK AND NO HE IS TRYING TO RIP U OFF DONT GO THAT WAY
Your Honda has 3 fuel filters. It would be fair if all three are done.
the fuel filter is right under your car and you can do it yourself, just get some tools to get to work...
If you don't know where your fuel filter is then any price is a fair price. your paying for your own ignorance
Well any were from 30-50 dollars, I'd say.
go pro.....88 the fuel lines are kinda old and there could be problems and then additional parts may need to be replaced.
Just do it yourself. Save $50!
    $25-$30 is a fair price

How do I change the fuel filter on my Scooter?

My I have a MC-54-250B Roketa scooter or you could just say a clone of the Honda Reflex. Well its been less than a week and it has died on me. I can't start it. The dealer says it is possibly the fuel filter and to check that out. Does anyone know how to get to the fuel filter on that scooter? I have spent hours trying to find it.
How do I change the fuel filter on my Scooter?
That model doesn't have a fuel filter.

Most common problem with new bikes is a clogged jet in the carburetor.

Bikes are run at the factory and fluids are drained before shipping.

The carburetors never get fully drained.

What little gas that's left in the carb goes bad and clogs the jets, if not fully drained before the customer takes possession.

Bring it back to where you bought it and have them get the bike running properly - it's their responsibility to sell working products.

Or dis-assemble the carburetor yourself, remove and clean the jets - hold them up to the light - you should be able to see through it.
How do I change the fuel filter on my Scooter?
Take it back to the dealer and have them fix it....If your not a motorcycle mechanic, you can cause more damage, so just let them fix it.

It's more detailed, and you don't have the correct tools for the job.

Changing a Fuel filter in a 05 Jetta TDI....?
Make sure you have the right filter, there were a few different filters for the 05 new style TDI. See this page for more details on changing the diesel fuel filter.

    http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q_how_t鈥?/a>

You have to order the filter by VIN, hope you got the right one! It should just pull straight out.
Changing a Fuel filter in a 05 Jetta TDI....?
pull up on the cartridge, don't forget to prime the filter after or you will run the pump dry and that's no fun
I've got a Jetta TDI. But it's '03, so I don't know if it'll help. Look for a screw that you can untighten with a phillips head. Pull the clip out of the top of the Black piece where the two rubber hoses meet, and then pull it out. Save the clip in a place where you won't lose it. Use pliers to loosen the brackets on the other two hoses, then pull those two tubes off. Then, after the phillips head screw has been loosened, simply pull the old filter out. You drain it by unscrewing the white plastic piece at the bottom. Careful. Diesel will come out of it. Then simply take the filter to your Auto Parts store for recycling.

After you replace the filter, you'll need to fill it with new diesel fuel, so you'll also need a funnel. Pour it in slowly, and let the diesel soak into the filter. BE PATIENT! You've got to wait until it's filled to the very top. Shake and jiggle the filter gently to dislodge air. You should reattach the two hoses, and secure their brackets. Stick the black thing back in and slide the clip back in.

After the hoses are back in place, you can start the car, and it should pump the diesel through the lines to the new filter. You may have to go back and pour more diesel into the filter, as trying to start the car will have freed up space for more diesel inside the filter. Don't give up! And whatever you do, don't hold the starter longer than 3 seconds. You can damage the engine that way. Do it in 2 to 3 second increments only.

Hope this helps. :) Email me at ebocc@cox.net for more help if you need it.
You have to turn the screw on top of the filter in order to release the filter cartridge.

Have changed fuel filter on my t350 transit but tuning over on the key but wont start?

it is rwd do you have to bleed anything my friend surgested using damp start but i think you cant use that on these later vehicles please help
Have changed fuel filter on my t350 transit but tuning over on the key but wont start?
As a general principle with all diesels you should bleed the system after changing the fuel filter.(even if it is self bleeding-takes a lot out of the battery to fill an empty filter)
Have changed fuel filter on my t350 transit but tuning over on the key but wont start?
Check if fuel pump is still working.
yes you have to bleed the fuel system, there is a bleed screw on the filter housing and a pump
had the same bother with a ford car. u may have to manually pump the fuel to the engine to fill the filter, the hand book will tell you how to do this as it differs between engines, there is a pump built into the fuel system for this sort of thing.
you have to bleed the air out of the fuel lines. turn the key on and push the little schrader valve on the fuel rail to bleed it.
You should have filled the filter with fuel when you fitted it, this saves you cranking the engine for a long time. Take it off again, fill it and it should start fairly quickly. Most later fuel systems are self bleeding earlier systems needed the injector pipes loosened off to release the air when rotary/dpa pumps were fitted.

Changing the Fuel Filter - BMW 316i?

Anyone got any experience of doing this?

The filter seems to be in an unusual location, and the housing looks like it'll be hard to remove.

There is very little length in the flexible pipe bits, making it tricky to work around.

    How do I handle this?
Changing the Fuel Filter - BMW 316i?
    Which model do you have?

Whatever it is, and you may already be aware, an absolute must is to depressurise the fuel system before disconnection.
Changing the Fuel Filter - BMW 316i?
I think you have to remove the gas tank. and please make sure there is no gas in it first. If I was you I would take it to a shop...
To depressurise the system remove the fuel pump relay while the engine is running.
You might as well check the charcoal canister while you're at it (if you have one)

If a fuel filter needs changed on a Toyota vehicle, would it show up as a code on the computer when taken in?

Several people have told me to change my fuel filter in my vehicle to stop some recent problems. If it needs replaced, would the vehicle show a code on the computer system at the dealership?
If a fuel filter needs changed on a Toyota vehicle, would it show up as a code on the computer when taken in?
when your fuel filter is blocked it may be hard to start, loss of power ,engine may miss, idle rough it is possible for a block filter to cause a problem that will set a code
If a fuel filter needs changed on a Toyota vehicle, would it show up as a code on the computer when taken in?
    not neccessarliy
I don't think so. If the problem is lack of fuel flow, a code may indicate that, but not specific to the component.
A clogged filter will effect engine performance that YOU will notice and the computer will see it to. If not so bad, NO the computer will not detect it.
No the fuel filter has no sensor so it will not show show up as a malfunction. when your car is running badly or finally stops change the fuel filter first. I change mine yearly
well what are ome of the problems its having but to answer this question no a fue filtr will not pull a code so it would not show if it was the fuel filter
If you go to the dealership they charge you 86$ to diagnoise the problem. Just change the fuel filter it only cost about 10 $ buck at any autopart store. Sometime it located in the engine area or on the fuel line after gas tank . If your check engline light on then it will show up a code, but it won't pick up a code if it not on. OB2 after 1993 i believe it only dectected emission related problems. If they were a crazy fuel problem in your car it will show up with a scan tool. But for preventive maintenance reason, you should change your fuel filter every year depending on driving condition and condition you drive in. Dirt road etc.

    hope i can help...

  • How do you change a fuel filter/91 chevy cavalier? What signs tell you it is bad? Our quit yet started later

Our cavalier quit yesterday suddenly yet when going back leter-it started right up. Made it 8 miles and quit again. Sat for 3 minutes and started again. Fuel filter?? If so , how do you change it ? If not-how do we fix it? Can not afford a mechanic!!
How do you change a fuel filter/91 chevy cavalier? What signs tell you it is bad? Our quit yet started later
Sounds like it could be your fuel pump. It's in the tank. Get a fuel pressure check (possibly autozone can do). It has to be a certain range. Get a manual from library on cavalier repair to find the specs.
How do you change a fuel filter/91 chevy cavalier? What signs tell you it is bad? Our quit yet started later
I worck on cars and have come accross this alot.Your fuel filter is located under the hood alittle ways from the throtle body.It will look like a little can made of metal or plastic. It will be held between a spliced hose w/ clamps.Remove it and blow through the side that is marked FLOW --%26gt;.Debrit may come out and if so it will need replacing (a couple of bucks)But to chang your F. pump it may be located inside the gas tank. This is easy also but needs to be done by a mec. cause it involves an electrical harness that needs to be in place.
find the gas tank under the car , then follow the gas line to find the fuel filter . not sure on cavalier but it might just screw off . and they are very cheap at an auto store
Yes definitely go to the library get Chilton auto manual for cavalier. It will tell you how to change the fuel filter. Filter only costs about $12 Canadian. If it turns out to be fuel pump try asking at the wreckers for one off a low km car like under 200,000km. Cheaper than new (few hundred dollars). How many km are on your car? That may point to other possible issues.
it sound like you don't have enough preasure but you can try the filter first but on some cars it takes a cupler to remove it on one end and the other end will be a nut to loosen up you will know when you see it but the factory does like to hide the filter on certain models up around the gas tank but at the back side of the car they are easy to change out though if that doesn't fix it then get a fuel preasure gauge to check the car it should read about 32 to 34 psi.

How do you change a fuel filter on a 1997 Honda Accord?

I have a four-cylinder Honda Accord that needs a new fuel filter. I have the fuel filter, and have been told that it's fairly easy, but I can't find the fuel line under the car. Does anyone know of a website to show me how, or can someone walk me through? Thanks!
How do you change a fuel filter on a 1997 Honda Accord?
i blieve you filter is located either under the air filter box or on the firewall near the passenger middle of the engine comartment.
How do you change a fuel filter on a 1997 Honda Accord?
Get ready to cuss a lot. The actual replacement isn't bad, metal line screws into both sides, but the placement on the 97 accord will make you want to choke an engineer. it is halfway down the firewall in line with the brake master cylinder. You will probably need 2 crow's feet to get the bastard out. Coming up from the bottom is slightly easier, but you are still going to need every swear word in your vocabulary.
Spend about $18 on a Haynes Manual from Auto Zone. It will tell you everything you need to know...... and much more! I buy one for every vehicle I own so I can do repairs and diagnose problems myself instead of paying a dealer or mechanic. Also, some vehicle maintenance shops will give you some pointers for free, you just have to ask.
That's because it's not under the car, open the hood, install your hood prop, stare at your winshield in the center, look a few inches to the left and you will see it. You take the two banjo bolts out and remove the fuel filter.

How do i change the fuel filter on a ford transit 2.5l di engine?
If it is fitted to the o/s rear of the engine, there is a black knurled nut/locking device, ( which is in fact a ring that tightens around the top of the filter) loosen well back and ease off filter assy. fit new filter, making sure that it is pushed well home before tightening locking ring, bleed before attempting to start...
to change a fuel filter u need line wretches to get the bolts off the filter u could use reg but i wont u will strip bolt and it will a pain in the butt to get it off. for my car its 2 bolt 1 on each end of the filter use line wretches
Undo the nip clip on filter head pull off old filter.Fill new filter with fuel push filter up into filter head but psh it good and hard as they sometimes dont get a grip and tighten up the nip clip.Fire it up no need to bleed it

  • Gas won't come gushing out when I change my trucks fuel filter, will it?

I have an 88 chevy silverado, and I want to get the fuel filter changed. I was having a good buddy of mine, who has his own mechanic shop nearby whom I take it to for repairs, do it while he had to fix something else on it too. But I figured it's such a simple thing, why am I not doing this? I was just wondering if when I unbolt the fuel lines from it, the gas from the tank shouldn't come rushing out because the fuel pump isn't pumping, right? Thank you!!
Gas won't come gushing out when I change my trucks fuel filter, will it?
Well, you 're right but you're forgetting about the gas already in the line, left there from the last time you drove the truck. THAT gas will indeed run out (not GUSH, but run out quickly). You need a bowl and some rags... it still isn't too bad, just be careful, don't smoke, etc... LOL
Gas won't come gushing out when I change my trucks fuel filter, will it?
There will be a little bit because the fuel line is pressurized. Just enough to get in your eye or your hair if you're not careful. I always unscrew the bolt with a stiff arm as far away as I can depending on where yours is. Make sure you shake the filter when the lines are off to get the extra fuel our of the filter. Remember which way it came off too.
if your vehicle is fuel injected , the system is under a little pressure, so before taking wrenches to it take off the gas cap. The fuel will come out of the line, but only that witch is still in the line so have a receptacle handy to catch it (gas plays hell with ashphalt) proceed with caution.
Cover all your bases. When you disconnect the lines have a golf tee ready for each line. They are small enough to go into the line and yet taper up to a big enough size to plug the hole. Has worked many times ove the years for me.
Vent the gas cap first to relieve any pressure in the tank. The only gas that ought to come out when you pull the filter is the stagnant fuel that was in the line (only a couple of ounces.)

Don't forget to tighten the cap when you're done.
No, the gas tank will not empty its contents all over your driveway.

but you will need a drain pan to catch the 8oz. of fuel that fills the filter.

Don't smoke while doing this either!

    Good luck
In order for the fuel to 'come gushing out' , the fuel PUMP must be operating. The fuel pump ONLY operates when the engine is turned on and running. Therefore, disconnecting the fuel lines when the engine is off, will be ok. You might lose a drop or two of fuel. BUT you know, changing the fuel filter is a relatively simple operation. Not that difficult. But I would suggest that you observe your mechanic friend doing it. The first time I attempted to do it, (via printed instructions in a parts and service manual), I damaged a 'flared fuel line'. After that, I watched a mechanic accomplish the same task. Then it was easy to do. I change the fuel filter in my vehicle about once a year. Without any problems. Takes about 10 minutes. Good Luck.
You will lose a small amount. Gas has to be forced down the fuel line by a pump.
Good tip, start the car and find the fuel pump relay fuse under the hood. With the car running, pull it out and the car will shut off. That will semi de-pressurize the lines.

Where do i find the fuel filter on my 1992 saab 9000 cs?

the car has started jerking while driving and stalling when sitting at lights, im guessing mybe it has picked up some rubbish from the bottom of the tank maybe, going to try changing the fuel filter.
Where do i find the fuel filter on my 1992 saab 9000 cs?
It can be in one of two locations depending on the model year. The fuel filter is located either in the engine compartment on the left side, or just ahead of the fuel tank under the car on the right side. It is easily removed with a selection of metric open end wrenches (or if you prefer %26quot;spanners%26quot;).

Can I change a fuel filter on a motorcycle myself?
Yes you can, take the proper precautions-gas is flamable so no smoking or ignition sources around while doing this. Try to do this outside if possible in case any gas leaks that way you don't have to live with petrol smell on the garage floor. Use a clean can to catch any fuel that may leak from the lines as you disconnect them from the filter.

And when you get the filter from the dealership, ask them if you need any teflon tape to put on the threads before installing the new filter.
yes just go buy one and if you need some help ask the guy were u get it but fuel filters are pretty simple to change expessally on motorcycles cause there smaller usually.
Yes. There is no 2005 1500-C

How do you change fuel filter on 1997 Pontiac Sunfire.?

I cant seem to get it off or find out how to relieve pressure on the line.
How do you change fuel filter on 1997 Pontiac Sunfire.?
To relieve the pressure, pull the fuel pump fuse while the car is running and wait til it dies. To change the fuel filter, you need unscrew the threaded connector from one end , then use a 13mm wrench and slide it between the fuel filter and plastic retainer and pry so the wrench is pushing the Retainer into the hose then pull the hose off the filter. Pop it out of the holder and replace.

Does changing the fuel filter improve the fuel economy?

Think of the car like you would your body. The better you take care of it, the better it will run. It definately will not hurt the fuel economy if you think of it that way. Also, keeping the proper amount of air in your tires, reducing extra weight whether it be from your truck or back seat will help.
Does changing the fuel filter improve the fuel economy?
If the fuel filter is restricted, changing the fuel filter CAN improve fuel economy. A restricted filter will not deliver the appropriate amount of fuel to the engine, causing performance issues. Most sources will recommend replacing the fuel filter as a means of preventing excessive strain in the fuel pump that would cause it to wear out faster than normal.
Does changing the fuel filter improve the fuel economy?
No. General maintenance and a light right foot is the key. Also using low viscosity oil will help as there is less drag on the moving parts. The best is Mobil 1 0w-40 fully synthetic, but is is expensive.
YES. and thye are very cheap. well worth it, also new spark plugs, changing the oil and oil filter, in fact a full servcie does a car aworld of good.

also pumping the tyres up to the correct pressure as well.
Yes a clogged fuel filter will mean that you have to put your foot down more to get anywhere.

Get it changed and be surprised by the difference.

you need a wrench to take off the filter and you can use the same wrench for both sides even though one goes one side and the other one goes the other. and put a new filter up and tie it up.
might have quick disconnect - need special tool -buy the plastic set $5 or so.
that one is not that hard at all. i did one to day at work. it does require a release tool though. you slide that into the line and it will come off of the filter pretty easily.

2000 Explorer Sport. It sputters and stalls when it is shifted to D or R. Changed fuel filter. What else?
a vacuum leak is a common issue.

It is not fuel related, since I assume that it idles correctly in park or neutral.

A cam position sensor would keep the truck from starting, and or, it would stall at any time if it was faulty - not just when changing gears.
2000 Explorer Sport. It sputters and stalls when it is shifted to D or R. Changed fuel filter. What else?
ask the mechanic to to check the cams...
check the oxygen sensor and replace it. easy to do and not too expensive. it judges the oxygen content in the fuel mixture and when you go from N to either D or R, you're lowering the RPM enough for it not to be working and judging the oxygen properly.

The only filter I can find listed is mounted on the tank module. Remove the rear seat and lift the cover on the floor. Remove the two fuel/vapor lines, the electrical connector and the 8mm bolts (8 of them??) Then lift the pump module up and out of the tank and take it out of the car through the rear door.

Unless there is a problem, the filter should never have to be replaced.

Just changed 2000 Focus to biodiesel. DO i change fuel filter now & service it in March or full service now?

DOes anyone know about biodiesel?...One biodiesel supplier said i should get a full service very near to when car was due for servicing - couldn't say when - didn't want to give the wrong answer?. Yet another said just change the fuel filter after 2 tanks. He had a landy that packed up after 4 1/2 tanks without fuel filter change. Is a blocked filter likely to affect my car starting in the morning? Not sure if I can change it myself, just ordered the Haynes manual - should i be tampering with it - as a complete novice? My MOT is due in March, so thought i could save pennies with booking both together.
Just changed 2000 Focus to biodiesel. DO i change fuel filter now %26amp; service it in March or full service now?
I know a enough about biodiesel to avoid using it:

1- Ford does not approve use of biodiesel, so any problem to your engine will invalid your warranty

2- You can only rely on word of mouth to get information on biodiesel usage...

switched to biodiesel now? Change the filter immediately!
Just changed 2000 Focus to biodiesel. DO i change fuel filter now %26amp; service it in March or full service now?
Fuel filters are inexpensive and with a Hayne's manual, you should have no problem doing the job yourself, almost certainly with regular tools. Yes, I'd change it now, change it after 2 tanks or so just to see, and then change it after a few more. It's kind of like changing your oil often...you can't hurt it by giving it a new filter.

Follow the directions properly (no shortcuts) and the whole process should only take 10-15 minutes, whereas you'll probably get jabbed with $50-80 for a filter and labor at a shop and it may take a day (considering workload).

Oh...yes, a clogged fuel filter will obviously hamper performance, or not give you a start at all. Your fuel has to pass through the filter before it gets to the engine in all cases.
When changing fuel types to bio diesel it is important to change your fuel filter as soon as you can. This is because bio diesel has a mild solvent action which will release particles from inside the tank and fuel lines. It is not unusual to have to change the filter a couple of times during this process. Many add a second filter. It is also important to ensure that the bio diesel supply you are getting is filtered and free of contaminants. If you are buying from a commercial supplier it is usually pretty clean and is likely a blend of diesel/bio diesel. If you are using recycled vegetable oil, this has to be filtered several times and is usually heated in order to facilitate cold starting. You can go on line to many different forums about the pros and cons of bio diesel use. Just Google bio diesel and read away.
jdm is right , you should change the filter a few times since bio-diesel will clean contaminants from your tank , good luck and welcome to the league of do it yourselfers

My car won't start after Changing the fuel filter.?

I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee and a couple of days ago I ran out of gas. Ever since I then my car will shut off while in reverse and when ever I don't apply acceleration. So today I changed the fuel filter and it started up like normal. I let it sit for about 10 minutes then tried to reverse but yet again it shut off. Now It wont even start. The car will turn on but the engine will instantly turn off if I don't hit the gas pedal. I also added two things of fuel injectors if that helps.
My car won't start after Changing the fuel filter.?
I think you have a failed/failing fuel pump. The pump is in the tank and is cooled by fuel running through it and sloshing around it. When pumps run dry (out of fuel) they don't get cooled as well and consequently fail.

This seems to frequently happen with pumps that have a lot of miles on them...the proverbial straw that breaks the camel's back.

You could check for this with a fuel pressure test. A fairly easy test, and you can rent the tool at Autozone (for free) and do it yourself. Unfortunately, most vehicles require that you remove fuel tank to access pump, although there may be an access hole on floorboard/ top of tank.
My car won't start after Changing the fuel filter.?
I took off the fuel relay before changing the filter.

This sounds obvious, but did you properly reinstall the relay?

There is nothing special required to re-pressurize the system.

sounds like your fuel pump. Take a rubber mallet and smack on the gas tank while having someone else try and start it. If it starts its your fuel pump. I should know, Ive owned about 13 of those things :P

What the heck? I need to drop the gas tank in order to reach and change my car fuel filter! Now instead of paying 10 dollars or a filter, I have to pay 90 dollar. 80 for labor and 10 for the filter. Is ther a lot of car that require that? I want to think not.
Drop the fuel tank to change a fuel filter?
yes there is, you didn't say what kind of car or truck, the is part of the fuel pump, if they just replace the filter only, they took you for a ride unless they didn't have to drop the tank some imports there's a hatch to get to the fuel pump.good luck.

How to change a fuel filter on a 2004 F-350 diesel dully?
More than likely the fuel filter on the framerail wasn't properly installed, since it is an absolute pain to access, especially if it's a 4x4, causing the fuel supply valve inside the HFCM not to open to allow to fuel to travel to the secondary filter on the top of the engine.

I work at jiffy lube, and if im not mistaken, you have a canister fuel filter near the middle of the engine on top. Im not 100% sure, but i think thats where it is. If that is what you have, just unscrew the top of the plastic lid, replace the round gasket(should come wiith the new filter, and reinstall. I hope this is of use.
The lower fuel filter housing must be screwed all the way in or it won't start. There are 2 fuel filters on a 6.0 L. engine
check filter right way round sounds daft but it is easy to put it on wrong way round and make sure you bleed fuel through otherwise it just wont suck the fuel up the pipe as it is lazy like a lot of ford components

Is there a bushing that fit onto the gas line before going into the fuel filter?

I was changing the fuel filter on my 97 Chev Venture when I notice a plastic black bushing toward the end of the fuel line that goes from engine to the fuel filter, I was told to remove it and after I hooked up everything my engine only stayed running for about a minute after that, the engine shut off and wouldn't start again. If that bushing need to be replace what is it called.
Is there a bushing that fit onto the gas line before going into the fuel filter?
In my neck of the woods, that black thing is called an o-ring, it has to be there to keep the fuel from leaking out. Put it in there before you try to start the vehicle again.

Once that is done, turn the key to the run position for a moment, turn it off, and repeat a few times. The fuel pump only runs for a few seconds and you will need to do this to prime the fuel system. After doing it a few times, attempt to start the van. Whoa look a that, it started right up.
Is there a bushing that fit onto the gas line before going into the fuel filter?
This is gonna sound stupid, but did you put the filter on right?
Did you leave the key on the on position for a minute or so afterwards ? It will have to rebuild pressure and force the air out of the lines never worked on a venture myself though besides front end parts .
    depends on the application
Your filter was full of air, and when you started it, the air made it's way up to the injectors.

You may want to bleed the air from the system.

I don't think the %26quot;bushing%26quot; has anything to do with it.

    ADDED:

GM uses an Oring on the flared end of the fuel line that goes into the filter.
there is a plastic clip that holds some fuel filters onto the line. is there gas pouring out when you turn the key on? And if you did do it properly did you cycle the fuel pump allowing fuel to refill the filter? if not you may have just ran the gas out of the line and need to prime the system

Just make sure you disconnect your battery first. You dont want any surprizes. Its pretty simple. Disconnect the fuel line and stick a rag in it. Undo any clamps and take off the other fuel line. Stick a rag in that too. Put on the new filter plug in the lines attach and tighten the clamps and drive around the block to check it. Dont forget to reattach the batttery or.............you wont go far! No special tools.

Without any experience you should be able to figure it out in half an hour.
How to change fuel filter on 2000 Nissan Quest?
Make sure the engine is off.

Loosen the gas gap to release the pressure.

The fuel filter is an inline filter that is usually in the engine compartment. Many are plastic but some are metal.

A hose will be connected on each end of the filter.

Some use hose clamps that require the use of a screw driver to loosen, others use pressure clamps that use a pair of pliers.

Once you find the fuel filter, its a 5 minute job to change it out.

New question about my 96 ranger 4.0L V6 and changing the fuel filter.?

I hit the fuel shutoff, tried to crank engine like I was told. I'm mechanically challenged just so you know, but I was under vehicle attempting to pull the hose off the old filter and gas started pouring out. Is this normal, and how much should I expect to come out?
New question about my 96 ranger 4.0L V6 and changing the fuel filter.?
Yes, gas will and should come out of the line....the purpose of the procedure you describe is relieve the pressure in the system (it is under 40+ pounds of pressure in normal operation), however there will still be gas in the line. On average you will typically get about 12 to 16oz out of the system (including whats in the filter) when you disconnect the filter.

When you get the filter replaced, cycle the key 5 or 6 times so the pump can re-prime the system. You should be good to go.

Please help me out, i need to get it up and running asap!!!!! and i wont take offense to the step by step response either. Thank you!
What is the entire process of changing the fuel pump and fuel filter in a 1985 toyota cressida?
the first step is to jack up the back of the car. undo the bolts on the straps that hold the tank in place and the ones on the filler neck. lower it down with a jack cause if its full it will be heavy. the leak you have is probably around the sending unit gasket. so take the sending unit out and that will be your easiest way to drain it. without siphoning. replace the gasket on the sending unit. but after you drain it. get some lacquer thinner and dump in the tank about a gallon and slosh it around and let it sit over night. this will remove the dye and sludge build up in the tank. while your doing that. take your gas line and use a compressor disconnect the line at the carburetor and blow through it with the compressor. if you have an in-line filter you will need to replace it with a new one. after that take the carb off and put a kit in it because it will be gummed up from the dye in the gasoline. there is a filter at the inlet of your carb gas line be sure to change that also. take the carb apart and soak it in lacquer thinner be sure to take the jets out then reassemble the carb with a new kit hook up the gas line empty the tank and blow inside it with the compressor to dry it out replace the sending unit bolt it back in place and fill it up. that should have you up and running in 1 days time.

ok the tool is simple here is that u do the tool has a little insert and the filter line has what i am goin to call an hemisphere fitting spray wd 40 in the fitting on the inside to loosen rust and corrosion next take the tool put it around the line with the insert goin into the hemispere there are four little clips in that hemisphere that the tool is going to compress so ull have to push fairly hard and hold it in second take the line and twist it as u do this to help break the rust and corrosion away then push the line as far toward the filter as it will go u will feel it kinda click i guess is what i will say when that happens pull the line away from the filter its simple if someone can show u its hard to explain HOPE THIS HELPS as far as the pressure goes there is a schrader valve on the fuel rail under the hood where the injectors get there feed from push the valve like u would to let air out of a tire it looks just like a tire valve on a ford
How do I change the fuel filter on my 95 ranger xlt 2.3L reg cab/bed 2WD?
yes they are the same to relieve pressure there is a cap under your hood on the top of the motor that looks like a tire valve take the cap off press the lil thing inside (watch your face this will spray gas) now the filter the tool fits in the filter press it in as far as you car and squeez the tool twist the filter and pull the same time it should come off repeat fot the other side

Does changing your fuel filter help improve gas mileage?

I have a 04 Silverado 2500HD, it has just shy of 70,000 miles on it, and as far as I know the fuel filter has never been change. I am about to take a mini road trip with a horse trailer so I am looking at doing a few little things to help improve my mileage...just wondering if this would be a decent investment before I hit the road. ( i dont want the typical answers....tire pressure, plugs, stuff like that i know that crap....) (mechanic standpoint would be appreciated even more)
Does changing your fuel filter help improve gas mileage?
Yes, change the fuel filter. I have a Siverado pickup and by changing the fuel filter, your mileage will increase. Your vehicle is equipped with fuel injection system, and needs to be in tip top shape for it to perform correctly. My truck was acting up, stalling, running like crap. Warning lights coming on, so I tuned it up. Still ran like crap. I changed the filter and it ran like a new engine. With 70,000 miles on your truck, I would change the fuel filter now! Filters are to be changed at least once a year.

It is located along the frame on the left side about half way down. I beleive you will need a 3/4 and a 5/8 inline tool to loosen the fittings. Also, if the 'o' rings are bad, you will need to replace them as well. It takes about 15 minutes to do this.
Does changing your fuel filter help improve gas mileage?
Actually it might not improve mileage but it will improve the performance of your truck. Allowing the engine to get the right fuel air mix without one or the other being restricted is paramount for top performance. Plus you dont want to get out someplace and have your engine stall because it was not getting enough fuel to run. So mileage maybe a little but a lot performance wise. Plus cleaner fuel is always better.
Yes make sure you change your fuel FILTER. It filters out the impurities and trash that may be in the gas your pumping in your tanks. This filter should be changed .
By all means, change the fuel filter; it helps to remove impurities in your fuel so your vehicle will run better. However, a new fuel filter alone will not improve your gas mileage.
    yes,certainly.
not really but it prevents it from being clogged up

I have changed my fuel filter and the car still wont start. what's next?

Pretty sure there is moisture in the line. added antifreeze and changed my fuel filter. still wont start. what could possibly be next?
I have changed my fuel filter and the car still wont start. what's next?
    %26quot;Pretty sure?%26quot;

You are going to have to determine if the no start is a mechanical, fuel or ignition problem. I would start by checking the fuel pressure and spark.
I have changed my fuel filter and the car still wont start. what's next?
It's a Xterra, 02. I was pretty sure only because I was on the road, just filled up the tank when this happened. I did a little research online and found out that on the 01-03 xterra's there was a recall on the fuel sender above the fuel pump. Nissan fixed it for free. Thanks for input.

Check the fuel pump. if you hear a sound when you turn your ignition switch to on, your fuel pump is working. if you hear nothing. it is not. now, you have to find out why it is not working. When you are fairly sure the fuel pump is working and fuel is reaching the Fuel injection Unit or carb. (you did not mention what kind of car you have. ) As Leeann mentioned, check for spark at the spark plugs. No sprak , no dice of it starting. Check the coils, timing belt or chain, distributor coil etc. until you do have spark. You can check the spark by removing a spark plug, and with gloves on put the plug at the end of the wire. now, place the thread of the spark plug against a metal ground. the spark plug should have a blue spark. If it does not. Do as mentioned above. check coils, distributor if equipped, etc.
Shoot in some starting fluid. May help get air out of the line.

Can anyone tell me how to change a fuel filter and/or pump on a 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo?

I have a 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo that sputters when I step on the gas. It stalled this morning when I was idling at a stop light but started right back up again. Could this be the fuel filter or fuel pump? Is the fuel filter located in the gas tank? If anyone can give me a walk-through on how to change the fuel filter and/or pump, I would greatly appreciate it.
Can anyone tell me how to change a fuel filter and/or pump on a 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo?
The fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank. To change the fuel pump you will have to remove the fuel tank.

There is an inline fuel filter that is not so hard to change. Try that first. It is located near the fuel tank under the rear of the Jeep.

Stalling at idle is more likely caused by a dirty idle speed control solenoid. This can be cleaned by spraying throttle body cleaner into the little slot near the throttle plate inside the throttle body.

Before servicing the fuel pump or filter, you need to test the fuel pressure. Many auto parts stores have loaner tools available or they may check it for you. The tool consists of a pressure gage that connects to the fuel pressure test port. Normal pressure for the aniline six is around 40psi. A faulty fuel pressure regulator can cause the problems you are seeing as well.

If you do remove the fuel pump form the tank, pay close attention to he rubber hose that connects the pump to the lines. I just had a time tracking down a mystery fuel pressure problem in a Cherokee that turned out to be a pin hole in that little rubber hose.

How do you change a 1999 hyundai elantra fuel filter?

My car was sitting for a year and I started to drive it on the freeway and it just died on me. I think i need to change the fuel filter. There is a black box underneath the back of the car is that where it is, if not how do I change it?
How do you change a 1999 hyundai elantra fuel filter?
I don't know where the fuel filter is on your car, but on mine (02 GLS) it's under the back seat. Do yourself a favor and go to http://www.hyundaiperformance.com . They can help you

How do you change a 1999 hyundai elantra fuel filter?
If it's a J2 it's under the bonnet against the firewall. If it's an XD it's under the back seat housed in the fuel tank as part of an intergrated fuel delivery system. Can't remember what year XD Elantra was released though.

Changing a Fuel Filter... Is it easy?

I have a Suzuki Swift, 98. I am experiencing a slow patch when hitting hills etc and a drop in power. I believe it could be the fuel filter. How easy is it to take this out and is it possible to clean it for the time being?

    Many thanks,

    Joe
Changing a Fuel Filter... Is it easy?
    Its to easy!

get yourself a pair of pliers and squeeze the clamps and slide the rubber hose back and take your old one out and squeeze the clamps again and insert the new one thats if its a carburetor model but if its a fuel injected gti style engine you will need a 12mm spanner and unbolt it from underneath the car.

They are usually located under the car beside the right rear suspension frame rails. They're super cheap, easy to change. Don't frog around trying to flush or fix a loaded fuel filter. Any auto parts store will have a fresh new fuel filter.

Where can I purchase a 1/4" fuel filter disconnector?

I need to change my fuel filter for a 2004 Toyota Corolla and can not find the tool to take it off. I have asked at different shops and looked online.

I wonder if I am using the correct term.

Is it called a fuel dis-connector, fuel wrench, fuel filter clamp?

The mechanic I go to does not even know where to get one.

I do not want to go to the dealership because they want to run tests on it before changing it and I just need it changed.
Where can I purchase a 1/4%26quot; fuel filter disconnector?
In these cars Toyota people have switched to metric, so this 1/4%26quot; is not applicable any more. You should look for a socket in metric or a long metric spanner. Before undoing it just spray WD40 on the nut bolt which will help a lot to take any rust away. Make sure that engine is cold, just place few rags underneath the fuel line as you will have some petrol coming out with pressure which can be absorbed in these rags rather than spilling over hot engine hence avoiding a serious mishap. Discard the old filter and fixing the new one is just the reversal of the procedure.
Where can I purchase a 1/4%26quot; fuel filter disconnector?
Amazon.com Ebay or a Toyota dealer or maybe even Lexus.

  • How do I change a fuel filter?

I have some problems with my fuel system, one of the tanks is leaking and I wanted to move some stuff around, including change the fuel filter, how do cut off the flow of fuel so that I can work on the fuel system, is there some cut off valve? Also since I have a fuel leak, can I just let the gasoline leak all the way out if all else fails?
How do I change a fuel filter?
whats the make of car , it matters
How do I change a fuel filter?
when you say one of your tanks , i have a feeling that you are not talking about a vehicle but if you are then you should know that once the vehicle is off then the gas pump ceases to function and so you dont need a lock off valve
If you are dealing with rubber lines (not metal) you may clamp of the fuel supply and wrap a rag around the line end. If the lines are metal, you will need to spill a bit of fuel at the filter end, but a rag will do nicely. ***Remember to disconnect the battery prior to service, as power to the fuel sending unit will cause it to push fuel up the line to the engine, causing much more leakage and a dangerous hazard to you and the environment***
Have to know more info. Fuel injection or carb? Make and model also. Letting the gas leak is asking for a fire and possible injury.
There are usually no fuel shut off valves on fuel lines. (except on some tractor trailer fuel tanks)

If you have a leaking tank you need to get all of the fuel out of it and fix/replace it or you are a moving bomb waiting for a spark to blow you up!

I assume you've found the fuel filter? (It can be anywhere in the fuel line depending on make and model.) It is usually held in a clamp and has the 2 fuel lines clamped to it. Have the new filter ready and waiting to be installed. (make sure you can see the arrow or marking that shows which way to mount it as filters are one way only.) Unclamp one line from the old filter and pull the line off of the filter. (I always disconnect the line from the filter to the engine first as the old dirty filter will restrict the flow of fuel from the tank somewhat and minimize the spilled gas.) Put your finger over the end that is towards the fuel tank and push the removed line onto the proper end of the new filter. (make sure you have the loosened clamp on the line) Now remove the other clamp and line from the old filter and push them onto the other end of the new filter. Tighten the clamps and put the filter back into its holder. Messy, but all done.

Note: if you have a fuel injection system, you might need to bleed it off before changing the filter. A repair manual for your make and model will say if that is needed and how to do it. (Chilton and Haynes, sold at local auto parts stores, make the best repair manuals for the backyard mechanic.)

How do i relieve fuel pressure from a fuel filter?

I have to change a fuel filter on a 99 honda crv and i heard that when changing the fuel fielte ryou have to be sure to relieve fuel pressure before removing it. How would I relieve the fuel pressure??
How do i relieve fuel pressure from a fuel filter?
release the pressure through the shrader valve on the fuel system. its like a tire valve but is either in the line or on the injector system. press the middle just like you woul;d if you were lletting air out of a tire. be careful about how much spray you get on you so you may want to use a rag to deflect or absorb it. it won't be much but the pressure it is under can squirt quite a distance.
How do i relieve fuel pressure from a fuel filter?
It's always best to depressurise the fuel system before replacing a filter , You can often get away without doing it , But most of the time you will get a Petrol spray all over you , So a bit of a fire hazard .

    Quickest way is to :-

1/ Remove Fuel Pump fuse or Relay

2/ Start car and let it run until it stalls

On some cars it may not run with the fuel pump Fuse/relay out , so crank the engine for 20 -%26gt; 30 Seconds and that should remove the pressure .

Don't forget the Fuel filter must go in the correct direction , The filter should have an Arrow on it and that should point in the direction of the motor .
One way is to put a rag over the fittings then crack it open.

There is also a valve located on or neer the fuel rail, it looks like a tire valve. Push in the valve with a rag and a screwdriver. This pressure will disapate rappetly so it wont hurt anything
on just a little crv just put a rag around the line and slowly back off the line on the filter.(its not a lot of pressure) but if you must there will be a valve that looks like the valve on your tire with a black lid screwed on it. on the fuel line or fuel rail, just depress it with a small screw driver. be sure to place a rag over it to. good luck

How much should the changing of my fuel filter cost?

    I have a 2003 Dodge ram 1500 3.7 engine
How much should the changing of my fuel filter cost?
unless your going to change the pump on it. nothing like rick told you ,its part of the pump assembly on that one and normally doesn't need to be changed out until the pump goes bad, that was one fault i had against dodges though they needed to have a serviceable filter on all their vehicles, good luck.
How much should the changing of my fuel filter cost?
It might only have one in the fuel tank, so that would be expensive to change.
Well since the fuel pump is part of the filter and you dont change the filter till the pump fails then it would cost you nothing.

I am changing the fuel filter on a 1997 nissan pathfinder, but i cant get the lines to diconnect from the . . ?
Once you twist the rubber on the metal filter I use needle nose pliers like a fork to get between the filter and hose and pry the hose off while twisting the filter. Good for you girl taking on that job. Wish I could get the girl friend under her car. Tell the Fiance to get the truck ship shape before the next deployment!
I am changing the fuel filter on a 1997 nissan pathfinder, but i cant get the lines to diconnect from the . . ?
usually when a fuel filter has been on for that long you have to break the lines loose either with a pair of pliers or by sliding a small screwdriver between the line and the hose. probably the line is just stuck to the filter.
Listen to JO it is the same advice I'd give you......

I want to change the fuel filter on my wife's 97 Accord (yes it has three wheels in the grave).

When I changed the ff on my Ford Escape, I was told to take pressure off the fuel system by turning on the engine then pulling the fuse for the fuel pump until the engine sputters out.

Can I do the same thing on the Accord? This site (http://www.answerbag.com/question_accord鈥?/a> said to just loosen the bolts slowly until the pressure's off. Is that acceptable? Won't gas spray all over me and the engine?

Remove the gas cap. Then there is a banjo bolt on the far right side of the fuel rail. Loosen it, you'll need 2 wrenches to keep the base from turning. Here's some more info on changing the filter, its no fun. http://www.freewebs.com/hondadude/95Accf鈥?/a>

Where is the fuel filter on a1993 Cutlass Supreme? How do you change the fuel filter?
Under the car near fuel tank. Its recommended to release fuel system pressure before disconnecting the fuel lines. You can do this by removing the fuel pump fuse/relay or disconnecting the fuel pump and starting the engine and running it till it dies. The fuel system is under approx 40 psi even with the engine off. Just disconnecting this line at the fuel filter before doing so can result in fuel spraying in your face. I would recommend having a professional doing the repair if you are not exp in auto repairs.
Where is the fuel filter on a1993 Cutlass Supreme? How do you change the fuel filter?
Follow ur fuel line from ur gas tank to ur motor....You will see a cylinder like object. Usually it's close to ur gas tank on cars like these. You might want to change your air filter and plugs/wires.
I agree with the other poster that this isn't really a DIY job anymore because of the fuel pressure. The spray represents a fire hazard should there be an ignition source nearby and the age of the car indicates to me a potential for the lines in and out to be corroded and require some expert technique in removal.

Where to locate and how to change a fuel filter on a 1987 Oldsmobile 88 Royal Brougham?

Got the fuel filter its the right model just dont know where and how to change it, thanks in advance
Where to locate and how to change a fuel filter on a 1987 Oldsmobile 88 Royal Brougham?
I own a shop, and yours is one that is on the frame rail (drivers side) about half way between the engine, and fuel tank. It is best to raise the front of the vehicle to keep the fuel from running out. Look in the fuse box, find the fuse that says %26quot;fuel pump%26quot;, remove it before you attempt to replace the filter, as some pumps will run some even when the ignition switch is in the off mode. Look at the filter, and you will see a place for a wrench on both ends of the filter, so find something that fits it. Look at the fuel line, and find a good tight fitting wrench that fits the line. It is best to use a line wrench for this, but a good tight fitting wrench usually works ok. Remove the strap around the filter, and find something to catch fuel in. Remove the front (towards the engine) line first, pay close attention to the end of the line where it goes into the filter, there should be an o-ring on the line, so don't loose or damage it. When the fuel has stopped draining, remove the rear line, and turn the filter to where it (as well as the line) can drain into the container, and not all over you. Doing this job is a serious fire hazzard, so it's best to do outside in the fresh air, and be careful about making any sparks. Once the old filter is off, look at the new one to make sure it is the correct one for your vehicle. There should be one end of the filter that tells you the direction of flow by an arrow, or letter that says %26quot;IN, or OUT%26quot;. In would be towards the tank, and out towards the front of the vehicle. Make sure the o-ring is in place, and attach the rear line, but don't tighten it yet. Slide the clamp over the filter that holds it to the frame rail making sure it is correct, but don't attach to frame yet. Install the front line making sure the o-ring is in place. Now you can attach the clamp that holds the filter to the frame, and tighten down. Hold the filter with one wrench, and tighten the rear line. You will find it easy to tighten by mashing the two wrenches together. Tighten the front line in the same fashion, and install the fuse back in its place. Turn the ignition switch to the on position, but don't start the engine, and check the connections of the line by rubbing with your fingers to see if they are wet, if so the lines are not tight enough or the o-ring is bad. Once you are satisfied there is no leaks, start the engine, and check for leaks again. If there are no leaks, you are good to go.

Glad to help out, Good luck!!!
Where to locate and how to change a fuel filter on a 1987 Oldsmobile 88 Royal Brougham?
if you have a small round filter about 2 inchs long and 1 inch wide it goes into the front of ur carb lift of the air cleaner and u will see it good luck
You have to either lift the car or jack it up on the LR corner. The filter is just in front of the LR wheel right on the uni-body. All you have to do is install a 13/16 and a 5/8 wrench on the filter and the nut and loosen both ends. Then finish taking the nuts out of the filter and wiggle the filter out. Reverse to install. Careful, pressurized gas inside. Good luck.

okay so now i have to drop the tank down and replace the fuel filter on my 1990 chevy dooley... GREAT!!.. estimate time of repair please
    Changing the fuel filter?
you are going to be very frustrated to find nothing but a fuel pump in the tank. the fuel filter is on the driver side of the frame inside behind the cross member. i have done several of them. my father has a ,90 silverado, did that one laying down in the drive way.
    Changing the fuel filter?
1990 chevy has a filter in-line beside the frame on the drivers side.-NOT in the tank
fuel filter is mounted on the frame on drivers side not in tank. takes about 20 minutes.
Like others stated, the fuel filter is located on the underbody, unless you are refuring to a fuel pump than those are located inside the tank which would need to be dropped.

filter is located on the left side mounted on the car frame.you need a special tool to remove the filter.it used plastic clips to lock in the filter.tools cause about 15 dollars from pep boys or kragen auto parts.it takes about half an hour to change it. you need a pan to capture the excess gas when you remove the filter.cover the fuel filter connector with a cloth and remove fuel filter slowly to release the fuel pressure.do this job in a wide open area so you can breathe.

that's grate that your going to try this your self.

if u know were your flue line is coming out of the carburetor, then your good to go. disconnect the flue line from it now where the line was scared in that will also scaw out the flue filter is there. there all so may be an in line flue filter,u will need to follow the flue line to see. hope this helps.
How do I change to fuel filter on my '72 Chevy c20 van?
i own a shop and this one should be the one that screws in the the carburetor, right where the fuel line connect to,you disconnect the line and then use the right size wrench and remove it,be real careful and don't put the housing back in crooked they will strip out real easy, and use a little thread sealer tape on it,this will help keep it from leaking,re-connect the line, and that's about it,your done,i would remove the battery cable also, just to be safe about it,good luck with it.
find the fuel line to the filter and change , from the gas tank
I am asuming that you have a rochester 2bbl carb if that is the case follow the fuel line up to the front of carb there you will find a hex head fitting. get a tube line wrench of the appropriate size back it off and pull the line gently out of the carb. there you will see the fuel filter and a spring. I recomend changing both.

How easy is it to change a fuel filter on a diesel Peugeot 306?

I have a peugeot 306 straight diesel '99 plate. how easy is it to change the fuel filter for a novice with little DIY experience?
How easy is it to change a fuel filter on a diesel Peugeot 306?
It is a good place to start for a beginner. I don't know the exact engine,

but most Pug diesels have the fuel filter at the front top of the engine

near the injector pump. You will need a hex / Allen key of the right size (about 6mm) to remove the top, carefully as there may be fuel pipes attached and there will be fuel to the brim. The filter sits snugly inside, just lift out and replace.
How easy is it to change a fuel filter on a diesel Peugeot 306?
A Haynes manual will tell exactly how. My Picasso has the same generic engine, but the fuel filter is different on different years. If yours has pipes with quick release connections you press down on the white clip and they spring apart slightly and pull off. You have to be very careful not to get dirt into the disconnected pipes and it is a good idea to cling film the ends. All in all it is a simple procedure. You may have to prime the engine before restart. If so there will be a black rubber bulb under the bonnet to squeeze about 6 times to move the fuel into the pump.

    It is not that hard.

either the lines are reversed- wrong flow direction or faulty filter. could be the filter is eschew and blocking flow

The fuel filter is big and it may take a minute or two to fill it up and have fuel pressure. Turn on the ignition so that the fuel pump will prime the fuel system than crank the motor. Still nothing. Check the is there any gas in the fuel rail. There is a valve like a tire valve, unscrew the cap and press the stem to release the gas. If no gas shoots out then you double check the install of the new filter.

The install sure be straight forward. There is an arrow to show the direction of flow. If that looks good, then install back the old. If then it starts up then maybe the new filter is defective. It has a built in pressure regulator, that think could be bad.
Check out links below for some good step by step DIY articles on how to change a fuel filter on a E46.

Your fuel filter may be different from the one in the photograph, go to realoem.com and put in your last 7 digits of you VIN, then cross-reference the part number at autohausaz.com or pelican parts for the exact part.
As some other people said, you need to build pressure in the fuel lines again. Turn the key in the ignition to the the number 2 setting and leave it there about 2 minutes. It should definitely start after that. (as long as it wasn't installed backwards!)
A lot of fuel filters are uni-directional (one-way) and they'll have an arrow indicating direction of flow.

If he installed one of these, did he put it in backwards?

How to change a fuel filter on a 2006 dodge ram 2500?
if its a gas engine its in the tank, if its a diesel engine it just screws off,no special tools needed to remove it with, and on a 2500 it could be either engine and you didn't say which one it has in it,good luck.
How to change a fuel filter on a 2006 dodge ram 2500?
newer vehicles have a little clip holding the filter on. you will need a special tool to get it off. i tried to change the fuel filter on my 2001 ford and almost destroyed the line. i gave up trying to get it off and took it in. only cost me $20 at the dealership.

just make sure you ask for the old one back. cause some places run scams and don't actually do the work.
    Dodge. No fuel filter.
filter in tank with pump and emission valves, one piece unit $$$$

    doesn't require maintenance
If it is a diesel, just screw it off with an ordinary filter wrench. If it gasoline powered, you will either have to remove the bed or fuel tank, as the filter is on the bottom of the fuel pump.

What does it mean when you change the fuel filter on you truck?

What does it mean when you change the fuel filter on you truck and the gas that comes out of the old fuel filter is a milky white color?
What does it mean when you change the fuel filter on you truck?
It usually means water in the gas. Or maybe an additive? Did you put any additive in the tank. Maybe something that needs air to dissolve and could not do this in the filter. Keep an eye on the new filter. Who knows, it could be any thing in gas now days.Good luck
What does it mean when you change the fuel filter on you truck?
it means that your filter is doing it's job and that it is time to replace it. usually ever 10-12000 miles you should replace your fuel filter.

How do you change a fuel filter?

I have a toyota camry 91 4 cylinder and the fuel filter haven't been changed for at least 3 years so I need to know how to do this. don't tell me that it is dangerous just tell me how please. I couldn't find the repair manual anywhere.
How do you change a fuel filter?
when i changed mine on the truck all I needed was a couple wrenches to take the fuel hard lines out of each end of the filter. I fit the new one on and tightened it up.

When you undo the lines gas will come out, and should stop after a few x-amount seconds. It was a hard fit getting enough slack in the hard lines to pull em out of the filter. From what i remember that was the hardest part.

    its really really dangerous . . . j/k :) good luck
How do you change a fuel filter?
    go to en.allexperts.com

They will tell you how. My husband a dIY and He would not do his own because the new cars you need to depressurixed the lines before removal. Good luck
Changing a fuel filter isn't dangerous. You need to make sure that the vehicle is turned off, obviously, and don't have any open flame or be smoking, because you are dealing with gasoline. This is the most dangerous part about it. The filter should be under the vehicle, within the fuel line system. It isn't fun to do, by any stretch, and it may be a little rusty and need some line repair to reinstall. Good luck.
If you're not comfortable fixing cars and don't have the proper tools, for your own sake and people who live in the same household, please take it to a shop and leave it to a professional.

Changing fuel filter requires that you disconnect the fuel pump fuse, run the car until any pressurized left over fuel is gone, then replace the fuel filter, notice the gas-flow direction of the filter when you install it. All connections must be torqued to manufacture specifications using a torque wrench. It doesn't matter how careful you are, some gas spillage is going to happen so you'd better be prepared.

I'd suggest you go to your local library, borrow a Chilton or Haynes repair manual for your 91 camry and follows the direction.
