Changing fuel filter in my 2001 f-150, how do you get the hoses off (push on type)?

You need a special tool that is inserted in to the connector to release the spring tabs.



Autozone,Napa and many other places sell this tool pretty cheap. $5 if I remember at the zone

you break them with a screwdriver. there will be new ones with your filter, check to make sure they are there.

SOME MODELS NEED SPECIAL TOOLS
Fisrt dont break anything w/ your screwdriver,those fitting are high pressure and if you damage or destroy one,you'll have to go to Ford and get another one,I can only imagine what those fittings cost.Go to AutoZone,O'reillys or any auto parts store,get the fuel filter tool for Ford products.It looks like an X,it has a round opening @ each end,one end slightly larger than the other.Purcahse the X type tool that hinges in the middle,not the plastic push type,they dont work worth a ****.Remove the pressure from the fuel system,its best to let the vehicle sit overnight to make sure all the pressure is off.Remove the metal clips that are in the fuel fitting,they just pop off.Take the tool,place it around the fuel line,squeeze it together,push the tool towards the fitting until it goes into the fitting,the tool releases a clip inside the line,when the clip is released,the line simply slides off the filter. There will be some residual fuel that is in the filter,be careful it doesnt splash on you.When you reassemble,simply push the lines back over the ends of the new filter until they click locked,install the filter back in its holder.Snap the filter clips back on the filter and your done.Sorry so long,hope this helped.
