My 2008 4.3 Mercruiser will not start after fuel filter change.?

Engine sputters when cranked but dies imediately. Was running fine before I changed the filter. Does the filter need filling with fuel before puting it back on?

%26gt;i%26lt; has it right. The owners manual says 2/3 full of fuel. I don't know why not full, but.......clearly air is in the system. You need to bleed the system Use a competent marine mechanic. OR get a service manual for your specific engine and follow the instructions carefully, there are hazards when doing this job. Good luck!

the fuel filter has a direction of flow maybe you put it in the wrong way if so you might need to but a new one because you just damaged it by putting it in backwards.
It doesn't need to be filled first, it sounds like you might have put the fuel filter on the wrong way,causing it not to let the engine to have the right amount of fuel.
If your engine is MPI (fuel injected) and uses a screw-on cannister type filter, yes you have to fill it before installation.
