Where is fuel filter on 1994 Rodeo V6?

I have a 1994 Rodeo with a V6 which has hesitation between 60-70 mph. It runs find at lower speeds.

Someone suggested changing the fuel filter but I don't know where it is located.

Where is it and how difficult is it to change? I am not much of a mechanic.

How do i change the fuel filter on a 2002 Mountaineer AWD 4.0L?

I've located the filter on the passenger side frame rail in front of the fuel tank and behind a plastic shroud. Is there some sort of special tool I need to remove the lines and is there a need to disconnect the computer and/or battery?
How do i change the fuel filter on a 2002 Mountaineer AWD 4.0L?
Yes, you need a special tool. They can be bought at your local auto parts store and are specifically for Ford car and truck fuel line connections. The tool slips over the line, and you push it into the end of the connection. the tool stretches the spring inside the line connection and allows you to remove the line. No need to disconnect the battery/

i know how to change it but hoiw do i turn off the fuel pump so know fuel comes out?
How to change a fuel filter in a 1998 honda civic ex?
Here's how Honda service manuals say to relieve the fuel pressure

    1) Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery

    negative terminal.

    2) Remove the fuel fill cap.

3)Use a box end wrench on the 12 mm banjo bolt at

the fuel filter while holding the fuel filter with another

    wrench.

    4) Place a rag or shop towel over the 12 mm banjo bolt.

    5) Slowly loosen the 12 mm banjo bolt one complete

    turn.

The fuel pressure will push the fuel out of the loosend fitting and onto the rag. You must relieve the pressure before the fuel filter can be removed.

Another way to do it safely is to pull the main relay out of the connector and crank the engine over for about 15 seconds. The main relay controls the fuel pump and the ignition so the car won't start and the fuel pump wont' run but cranking it over should open the injectors to vent some of the pressure that is in the system. The main relay is located under the right side of the dash between the side of the glove box and the side of the car. You'll probably still have some residual pressure in the line but the fuel pump won't run with the relay out.

    hope that answers your question
How to change a fuel filter in a 1998 honda civic ex?
you need a haynes manual trust me its so worth it! it tells you every thing you need to know about your car.
if you know where the filter is then just take out the old one, hang the hose higher than the fuel tank and the most important, don`t turn the key into switch/acc position, take note that even if the fuel pump is not running there will always be something that will come out of the hose.

Can someone tell me where the fuel filter is on a v6 1988 camaro?

Im trying to change the fuel filter but i cannot find it. I would take it to a shop but I dont have any money. Thankyou!!!
Can someone tell me where the fuel filter is on a v6 1988 camaro?
its on the drivers side of the car. just infront of the wheel. look under the car and follow the steel line. itll be this big silver cylinder with big hex nuts on it. youll need two wrenches to get it off. one to hold the filter in place and one to turn the metal fitting on the cable. if you dont, you risk twisting the line or breaking something, also i suggest soaking it in a good bit of penetrating oil or wd 40 overnight, because that thing is under your car and has been hit by all sorts of water, dirt, dust and other road crap, and is probably alittle rusted on too. also when u install it make sure u follow the instructions. usually theres an arrow and it either points to the fuel tank or to the engine. i believe i bought a fram and it said to point the arrow towards the engine. if you put it in backwards your gonna have some problems.

Just changed one on 1988 Camaro. Guarantee is by frame rail ahead of fuel tank, which is the most impossible fuel tank in the world too change. This Car is abundantly the worst car in the world to change a fuel pump. What could possibly like about this car. luv ser

i agree with steve on that one it might also help to use better fuel
yes if fuel filter is dirty ur engine will be sucking dirty fuel in the carb or injectors

How do I changed my fuel filter...?

I own a 2004 Hyundai Accent. I need to know in details where the fuel filter is located, the tools I need, and how to change it.
How do I changed my fuel filter...?
For that car, it is likely in the fuel tank...they intend them to last the %26quot;life of the car%26quot;, but many times don't. If it is plugged, I would suggest having a pro do the job...
How do I changed my fuel filter...?
Fuel filter? Do you mean OIL filter? your fuel filter shouldn't go bad on a 2004 model. Still under warranty?
Nope. Don't touch it unless you are a mechanic or engineer. You're going to end up killing yourself. I don't care if you're short on money. This is not something you touch if you're not mechanically inclined.
I cannot verify currently the location of your fuel filter. It will be in 1 of 3 places. If it is in the engine bay It will look like a small can with a line going in top under a bolt and a line coming from the bottom going to the Fuel rail. If it is under the car it will be a small can with a hose hose clamped to each end. and if its in the tank its rather hard to change but I will tell you just to answer your question. I suggest having a mechanic friend or pro handle it if its there. To take it out of the tank, You will most likely need to depressurize the system by removing the efi relay under hood and run the engine until it dies on its own. then try to start it a few times. then disconnect the battery. in the trunk under the carpet and maybe spare tire there will be a small panel held in place by some bolts/screws. undo them and underneath is your fuel tank, there will be a circle with connectors coming out the top. you will have to unbolt it and lift out the fuel pump assembly. In the assembly will be the filter, the pump, and most likely the fuel level sender with float. Sometimes you have to replace it as a unit I am not sure on your car. If you don't you can replace the filter if you do You will have to buy a new unit at a store and swap the fuel lines onto it and electrical connections etc. For tools you will need sockets ( My guess would be metric around a 17 but not sure ) a flathead if you need to take off the hose clamps, and 10s or 12mm socket for the panel and tank cover in trunk. If you have to take off the lines to the fuel pump you will need a fuel line clamp and A lot of luck. I personally wouldn't mess with it unless you HAVE to. Any questions Ill be around. Oh and if they are in the engine or under the car depressurize the system and simply unbolt/unclamp them, and replace the way they came out. Make sure flow is correct way. -mike.

P.S. After searching it looks like the fuel filter Might be the under the chasis kind. Look something like this :http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sku/Hyundai/Accent/Hastings/Fuel_Filter/2004/HAGF346.html?tlc=Engine+%26+Drivetrain , do depressureize the system and find it.

  • How to change a fuel filter in a 1986 ford bronco 2?

i have an automotive backround, but mostly in body work, the person i bought the car from kept the body and interior in excellent condition, under the hood is a wiring nightmare i will tackle this summer, but for now the fuel pump went out, just wondering if i have to take off the gas-tank or if there is an access panel from the back of the car?
How to change a fuel filter in a 1986 ford bronco 2?
fourwheeler nut is right.... unless you cut a hole there isn't an access panel.... but dropping the tank isn't that hard to do.... undo the hose clamp on the filler neck and the straps around the tank lower until you can access the fuel line and wires to the pump to disconnect then drop the tank down the rest of the way... replace the pump and reinstall... hope this helps
How to change a fuel filter in a 1986 ford bronco 2?
filter your wires through the pump and ? the eng has fuel injection ?in the tank . The filter has two clips at perpendictular angle from the hose .slides out with a screwdriver. new filter should come with clips. as for the wires good luck.
Sorry but its in the tank and no I don't know of a access door unless you cut one.

Do you have to change the fuel filter on a 2000 corolla?

Does it need to b chaanged? I heard on the 2002 model and newer it's placed in the fuel tank and it doesn't need to be changed. But what about the older 2000 model? Thanks.
Do you have to change the fuel filter on a 2000 corolla?
Since 1998 the Corolla fuel filter has been part of the fuel pump in the gas tank and there is no regular recommended maintenance of it. This is from Haynes manual covering 1993-2002 Corollas and Geo Prizm. In 1997 the fuel filter was near the brake booster.
Do you have to change the fuel filter on a 2000 corolla?
%26quot;no rcommnded maintenance..%26quot; means you do not have to change it. Since it is part of the fuel pump and is in the gas tank, you wouldn't really want to bother it except if the fuel pump went bad and needed to be replaced. The new fuel pump, of course, would have a new fuel filter in it.

google it. most of them are inline with the fuel lines and should be changed ever now and then.
off course it has to be change if you don't change it it will get clogged up and you'll be %26amp;*%#ed

Its under your car near the gas tank,You would need to follow the fuel line it would be in there.Since you want to do it, i would buy a Chilton's repair manual for your car this will explain the procedure and precaution needed to change it out.As far as hard, its not hard, you just need to know what your doing, since your are messing with flammable gas and all its not good to make sparks.Wouldn't be a first job i would attempt, but the Chilton's should help you.GL

How to change fuel filter on a 95 Nissan maxima.?

That filter is very difficult to change (I've changed 3). It is located on the driver's side of the firewall, sort of under the master cylinder.

Here's what I did; I took off the fuel line where it attaches to the engine - and left the other end of the line attached to the top of the filter (the clamp on the filter is very difficult to get to). Next I took the filter out of it's clamp (it just pops out), and bent it over at a 90 degree angle so that I could get a screwdriver on the bottom clamp. After I loosened that clamp, I used the screwdriver and some long pliers to slowly pry off the hose from the bottom of the filter (try not to damage the hose) - that's the hardest part and takes the longest.

When you re-install, be sure to put the hose and the clamp on the top of the new filter before you install it. Push the filter into the bottom hose, then bend it over at a 90 degree angle to tighten the clamp. Pop the filter back into it's bracket, and connect the top hose to the engine, then check for leaks - especially at the bottom of the filter where you had to bend the hose at a 90 degree angle. You can reach down under the filter to feel for leaks - you really can't see the bottom after installation.

Do i have to decompress the system to change the fuel filter?

how bad will it spray if i just loosen the fittings without decompressing the fuel line first?

I can't find the fuel pump relay and do the: start motor, pull relay, let engine die and fuel line decompress - thing before replacing the filter.
Do i have to decompress the system to change the fuel filter?
Disconnect battery terminal first. If there is no pressure discharge valve around fuel injector rail, then use a rag or towel around the fuel filter joint and slacken pipe nut gently (anticlockwise) and release pressure. it will only take 5 to 10 seconds to reduce the fuel pressure. Mind you no smoking or sparks when you are working with fuel.
Do i have to decompress the system to change the fuel filter?
the correct way is to push in the schrader valve located on your fuel rail. it looks like an air stem on a tire. remove the cap and depress the pin in the middle. be careful; use a towel to contain the spray and wear glasses to protect your eyes (i learned the hard way once)

How do you change fuel filter on a 2002 chrysler voyager?
Well, I know this much about the newer van filters, and they are huge compared to them old ones. They are in comination with the EVAp canister, and attached to the fuel tank as well. Is kind of cumbersome, and they are not cheap. Think dealer price was about $30 or so.

Also, please have info of engine and such. Thanks.
Sorry buddy but this one I believe is inside the fuel tank? So change it when your fuel pump goes out?

How do you prime a diesel truck after you change the fuel filter?

I spray starter fuel in the air intake it will start but die out after a few seconds
How do you prime a diesel truck after you change the fuel filter?
    depends on year,make and model.
How do you prime a diesel truck after you change the fuel filter?
Need details if you want help What year make model and engine.Too many way to desribe
Starter fluid is not recommend ed on a modern diesel. Just turn the key on and the electric fuel pump will prime the engine. On older models like Mercedes there is a manual primer that you must hand pump to build pressure and is a pain to do. Best bet would be to check you owners manual or give us more information.
Diesel trucks are the biggest pain to start after changing the fuel filter or running out of gas. There might be a primer bulb somewhere in the engine compartment (check owners manual if you have one). Look inline whith the fuel lines to locate it. Even after you have fuel into the lines and your truck runs, it probably won't run very well. This is normal and it will start running good after a few minutes of running.
down by the filter there should be a primer lever and a air release valve
First, fill the filter cup and new filter back up with fresh fuel before reinstalling it. That will minimize the amount of air in the fuel system. Then look for a bleed screw that you loosen to let the rest of the air out when you crank the engine. Eventually, fuel should bubble out and you retighten the bleed screw. I also saturate a new engine oil filter with fresh oil and fill it up as much as possible with oil before reinstalling it on the engine. Then the oil will start circulating faster when you crank the engine.
on the fule filter there is a primer just like on a lawn mower You just push it until the filter is full.
fill the filter with diesel before you put it back on if it dies agaain take it of and fillit back up and put it back on

Can you change the FUEL FILTER on a Toyota Corolla?

I have a 2000 Toyota Corolla and I took it to one of the advance auto chains to buy a fuel filter and they said you MIGHT NOT HAVE TO change it on that type of vehicle since the fuel filter is built in the tank!

Can you change the FUEL FILTER on a Toyota Corolla?
I have a 2002 Camry, 125,000 miles on it. Still has original filter on it. Has not been changed. You may not have to change it unless you get some bad gas
Can you change the FUEL FILTER on a Toyota Corolla?
I may be wrong but I've never heard of a fuel filter inside the tank, maybe the fuel pump but not the filter. At any rate, if there is a filter that can be replaced chances are there is at least one and maybe two on the fuel line. Get under the vehicle and trace the fuel line from the tank forward to the engine, if you see a metal can looking thing about the same size of a prescription pill bottle or a clear plastic one that you can see gasoline in thats one of them.

Go to the engine and check to see where the fuel line is screwed in and look to see if there is a smaller container, it may be only about as big around as a AA battery and about half that in length. You may not have the one on the engine but I'd almost bet there is one on the line somewhere.

Don't smoke or have any open flame or heat sources around while your doing removal or installation. Have a drip pan within reach and a piece of cork or rag to stop up both ends of the line. If you get gas on your bare skin, wash it off with plain old soap and water, if you get it on your clothes, take them off quick or you might get a heck of a blister.
your answer is yes you can change the fuel filter. whether you want to or not is up to you. are you having a problem with fuel delivery? if so than by all means change it. if not than i would not bother after all it is a difficult process to do. not impossible just difficult.if you don't have any mechanical savy than i would recommend you take it somewhere to have this done.

Changed moms fuel filter, rust colored liquid came out when i took it off is this a sign of a problem?

1989 subaru justy gl 3 cylinder the old fuel filter was filled with a rust colored liquid is it just because the darn thing hasn't been replaced in so long or could there be something wrong with the fuel pump or the tank?
Changed moms fuel filter, rust colored liquid came out when i took it off is this a sign of a problem?
No, it's most likely sediment and other crud that was accumulated in the fuel filter. The old fuel filter was doing it's job to keep these particulates from harming the fuel injectors (or carburetor) and the engine.
Changed moms fuel filter, rust colored liquid came out when i took it off is this a sign of a problem?
more than likely mom does drive a lot and not long distances. a lot of fuel stations have water contamination in their fuel (your fuel) in our normal driving we notice it from poor fuel milage on a tank of fuel or poor performance but if cars set a long time between driving them the water and fuel seperate and the water can set at the bottom and coorode the tank floor. try changing her filter every 3 months and see if it continues. I would start adding a fuel addative to her car for this problem. sta bil is the product.
nothing is wrong with your pump, fuel filter at this stage should be replaced. you probably have water in the tank causing it to rust. rust in gas is never a good sign, But easy fix. Replace fuel filter. fill tank up go driving empty the tank and fill it up again and drive again till tank empty after 2 tanks of gas it will return to normal then if your extra careful change the filter again.
rust is common in fuel tanks on vehicles which sit , it is not unheard of to have some water vapor in fuel tank which turn into water in the tank. If the vehicle runs well every couple of tank fulls run some dry gas additive it should cut down on the water damage (rust) in the tank and lines
Pretty common if it hasn't been replaced in a long time. Rust develops in the fuel tank and your most likely seeing what the filter caught.

I doubt anythings wrong. Does it run well?
it was dirty and gas does look rusty kind of most likely its just the age of car and it has some trash in the tank should be ok
absolutely not a problem. they all look like that when removed.
Use some HEET the next couple of gas fill ups. That will help with any water that may be in the tank
could be water in gas tank causing rusting problem. Does vehicle sit around a lot?
no problem you did the right thing and just in time you saved her a lot of money down the line with repair bills

How do you change a fuel filter on a 1991 dodge Dakota?

someone suggested that there is a valve that needs to be turned off before I disconnect the fuel filter. is this true, and if so what does it look like and where is it located?
How do you change a fuel filter on a 1991 dodge Dakota?
I have a 1988 Dodge Dakota that I changed the fuel filter on a few weeks ago. There was no valve to turn off. The fuel filter is located on the drivers side under the body about half way down the truck. I had a pan under it when I pulled it off to collect the gas, and make sure you keep your face away when you pull it off, but it was only a small amount of fuel that came out, enough to soak up with a rag. Hope this helps.
How do you change a fuel filter on a 1991 dodge Dakota?
The valve they are talking about is to release the fuel line pressure, you cant turn it off, it is for safety purposes and is located under the hood on the fuel injection rail. If you loosen the filter-located like the other man said, under the truck inside the frame rail- you can't miss it. WEAR EYE PROTECTION, loosen it up, let the pressure bleed off, takes a few seconds, then finish removing the filter, reinstall new one and go!

i ha vent crawled under the car yet its snowing and 30 degrees and wet out there just doing my home work first....thanks jerry
Where is the fuel filter on a 1996 buick century located?
For some reason, Mike and I seem to disagree... When I replaced my fuel filter, it was under the car, near the rear wheel on the PASSENGER side! Although, my Century is a station wagon....

I've had my fuel pump replaced before, at a shop, to the tune of about $500. The tank has to be dropped to do it, but I'm not sure how. You can listen to see if the fuel pump is working by turning the key to the ON position, without starting the car. The fuel pump should power on for about two seconds and turn off, and if you listen carefully, you should be able to hear the motor whine from under the car.

you don't drop the tank. you do have to get under the car and it's not hard to do. get a great grade.

  • My ka keeps loosing power and shuddering like its loosing petrol, does the fuel filter need changing?

Na just change the car for something decent.
My ka keeps loosing power and shuddering like its loosing petrol, does the fuel filter need changing?
Could be a lot of things. It could be fuel starvation or an air leak somewhere in the vacuum hoses or the air intake. Get a mechanic to check it out the coil rarely goes wrong. It' probably something simple and cheap
My ka keeps loosing power and shuddering like its loosing petrol, does the fuel filter need changing?
That has just happened to my Fiesta Zetec and it turned out to be one of the cylinders not firing. I had to have a new coil pack and it cost me æ‹¢150.
take a look at your spark plug %26amp; wires along with coil and distribtor. it looks like you are getting weak or no spark. it could be one spark plug or more than one but in any case power will be poor if any of the above is faulty. if all is well withthe plugs and so on then try looking at the fuel system.let me know how things turned out. Oso.

Ok i am getting into imports and i bought this eclipse. i need to change the fuel filter but i have no manuel with the car so i am wondering if anyone could tell me where about to look...other than jackup the car and look..i need sort of a specfic location..ive read that its near underneath the window washer unit or under the battery box or something.
Where is The Fuel Filter Located on a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS?
Besides the location on the right rear under the car in front of the fuel tank, a few were also in the motor compartment under the windshield washer bottle on the firewall. Have fun!
Where is The Fuel Filter Located on a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS?
It's probably near the back of the car. They are usually near the fuel tank because that makes them more efficient. Think about it, what good is a filter if the fluid already ran through 10 feet or more of small piping.

Start at the top of your fuel tank and look for something the size of a large prescription pill bottle. It will have one fuel line going in one side and another coming out the other.

Sorry, but you're gonna have to crawl under your car. Some fuel filters require special tools to get them off. If they didn't, they could simply just fall apart. Try not to get fuel in your mouth too. I've done it and it's not pleasant.
The fuel filter is located on the passenger side about 8 - 10 inches before the rear wheel and it's about 6 - 7 inches under the car. there are only 6 bolts needed to be taken off. 2 for the bracket that holds the filter on and 1 that secures a break line to that bracket There will be a real nice bit of gas all over the place if you don't use a pan of some sort to catch the gas. just make sure you take note of the which side is which on the filter when you put the new one in place, if you mess that up your car won't run very well.

I have a question about the maintenance of the fuel filter on my 1997 jeep cherokee.?

I recently had some maintenance work done on my 1997 jeep cherokee 4wd 6cyl. One of the things that I wanted to get done was the fuel filter changed. My mechanic told me that since the fuel filter was located inside the gas tank that it did not need to be changed. Is this true, or is my mechanic just being lazy? Thank you to anyone that can help.
I have a question about the maintenance of the fuel filter on my 1997 jeep cherokee.?
the fuel filter is made as part of the fuel pump module [contains fuel pump, level sensor [for gauge], and fittings for evaporative recovery system.. the theory is that the filter media is washed clean by the continuous sloshing action of the fuel. i have replaced several of these over the years for failed pumps or shorted out by massive amounts of water [from lazy gas stations who don't check their tanks] but have not had a filter issue yet with this system.
I have a question about the maintenance of the fuel filter on my 1997 jeep cherokee.?
Lazy because you have 2 fuel filters one near the gas tank and one that your fule pump hooks up to to send fuel to your motor. Get a new machanic.
Oddly enough I've just mentioned this to sticky9788 re his Wrangler.

    Your mechanic is %26quot;bang-on-the-money%26quot;.

    Have faith!
There actually is not an external fuel filter on a lot of Jeep's with the 4.0L believe it or not...

Found that out when I was going to help a friend change his on a Wrangler...and then again when I changed a fuel sending unit on a Cherokee...

I'm not sure what Chrysler's thinking was on that particular issue, but your mechanic is correct...
Ive Owned 6 Cherokees/Commanches they all had an inline filter Just in front of the rearaxel on drivers side(about 18 inches from tank). In the tank is a fuel screen used to keep the pump Clean of Debris The In line Filter is what Cleans your Fuel for your engine.
Yes, its true, in order to change the fuel filter you have to also change the fuel pump as its a 1 piece unit. Unfortunately.
1996 and older XJ Cherokees have an external fuel filter (mounted on the left frame rail). 1997 and newer XJ Cherokees have a filter in the fuel pump module (not serviced). Your mechanic is correct, as are most of the answers. I don't know many mechanics who would turn down money.
your mechanic is correct it is a screen in the fuel tank. but is not a one peice unit and it can be replaced seperatly. good mechanic !!!unless its giving you trouble eont mess with it. I see jeeps every day with 200K+ miles that have never had tank dropped

How do i change a fuel filter?

do i need to know anything before changing it? will gas pour out at me? and if so how do i stop it? and will their be air in the lines?
How do i change a fuel filter?
First of all, before you get going to do it, do you know where the fuel filter is located? It will either be a round canister looking thing on the frame rail with one rubber line coming out and one going in. That will be easy, some gas will come out, but as long as you have the car off, it will stop within a few seconds, just watch your face! If you are unlucky, the filter is in the fuel tank, which you will definitely not be able to replace yourself unless you have the tools and are confident you can drop the gas tank and put it back in. Good luck!

Oh, and, when you are done, turn the key in the on position (without starting it), then off, on, then off, then on, then start. This will ensure that the pump re pressurizes the system.
How do i change a fuel filter?
what year and make of vehicle?

bleed the pressure first to avoid gas all over problems.

could be 2 clamps and a 5 dollar in line filter. Could be in your gas tank and take a few hundred dollars. moRe info please.

    Wayne
Depends on the type of car and the type of filter. Some are easy to get to, some are under the car. Some are connected with hoses and clamps (easy), some are connected to hard lines and require a special release tool to get them loose. You will get gas on you, and air in the fuel lines isn't an issue. Not the amount you will get from changing a filter. To be more specific, I would need to know the make, model and year of the car.
-what kind of car is it,and yes it will spray u will need to depressurize it

How do I change the fuel filter in my 2005 GMC Duramax 6.6 Turbo diesel?

Some kind of sensor is attached to it and I am not sure how to take it off and remove the fuel filter. The filter itself is bigger than a oil filter.

GMC 3500 with the 6.6 Turbo Diesel
How do I change the fuel filter in my 2005 GMC Duramax 6.6 Turbo diesel?
Well you can use large pliers (be careful not to damage the sensor) its a water-in fuel sensor, they also make a special wrench to take it out, i just used %26quot;water pump%26quot; pliers, just be careful you dont bust it!!----

EDIT -- i didnt read that you havent removed the filter from the vehicle yet, there is a connection about 4 in away from the base of the filter, follow the wire off the sensor, its kind of a pain in the a** but you have to disconnect it to get it out

  • Gray Paste/Material Connecting Fuel Filter to Pipe?

I own a 2001 Chevy Impala, and wanted to try changing my fuel filter, but when I got underneath the car I noticed that there was a hard gray paste/material in the threads that connected the outgoing pipe to the fuel filter. I assume it's something to help seal the connection, but does anyone know exactly what it is before I remove the filter and replace it? Any info appreciated, thanks!
Gray Paste/Material Connecting Fuel Filter to Pipe?
It is a locktite sealer more than likely. A tube may even come in the fuel filter box. If not ask for a small tube of it.
Gray Paste/Material Connecting Fuel Filter to Pipe?
It's probably teflon paste, I like it better than the teflon tape, get it at any hardware or auto store.
There's one more possibility. When a petroleum product mixes with water it turns into a grey fluid. If the fuel filter has been leaking a little and mixing with water from the road this could occur.
someone probably used plumbers glue, maybe the threads are stripped, or they didnt put a new o-ring on when they replaced the filter. you can also use plumbers tape and wrap the threads too, if it still leaks.

How to change a fuel filter on a 83 caprice classic 305?

    If I'm looking right it seems to be on the carbuerator itself, problem is how do I change it? What size wrench do I need and what's the process. I tried to remove it but it began twisting the fuel line. It's a Rochester quadrajet carb. I know someone out there knows, thanks in advance%26amp;
How to change a fuel filter on a 83 caprice classic 305?
you have to take a wrench and hold the metal housing that the line goes into, and take a small wrench to loosen the line. may have to loosen tighten, loosen tighten to free up the threads. if its not budging soak it with some penatrating oil. its not metric wrench sizes.
How to change a fuel filter on a 83 caprice classic 305?
You will need a 1 inch wrench to back up the filter housing and a 5/8 inch flare nut wrench for the line. Hold the filter housing still while you remove the line with the line wrench, then remove the filter housing with the 1 inch wrench. Be careful to take care of the threads on the Q-jet and don't twist the line. Make sure the spring goes in under the filter and the white nylon ring stays on the housing. Don't over torque the housing. The filter is a few bucks.
your suppose to take the line off first then just use a cresent wrench or a box end wrench to unscrew it. i changed several of them when i had a 78 pontiac.

I have 2001 Pontiac Sunfire, that will not start, i just put in a new fuel filter, any suggestions?

It cranks up but will not turn over. I changed the fuel filter, and while under the hood, I checked the spark plug wires. 2 of them were not firing, perhaps bad wiring? Would bad 2 bad wires cause the car not to start?
I have 2001 Pontiac Sunfire, that will not start, i just put in a new fuel filter, any suggestions?
the car would still start with two bad plug wires, you need to take it to a shop before you waste any more money on it guessing at it and throwing parts at it
I have 2001 Pontiac Sunfire, that will not start, i just put in a new fuel filter, any suggestions?
A car will not run on 2 cylinders, change ALL the wires and it should run.
If it ran before you changed the filter. It's probably not the wires. Make sure you did not put the filter on backwards.
Check to make sure you didnt put the filter in backward( i am not sure of the type in the sunfire) also in what manner did you change the plugs. Did you pull all the wires off at the same time, then remove the plugs? Is there a chance that you might have miswired the plugs? Did you use the same wires for the new plugs? When you removed the wire from the plug, maybe you broke the wire inside the connector? just suggestions. check the main wire from the ECM
it sounds like you've got a coil pack out

on many newer vehicles there is one coil pack for every two cylinders

simply look at witch two wires have no fire and see of they are on the same coil pack
i thought you fuel filter under the car next to your gas tank!! check that one!! i do not know what do you changed under the hood but check that part again and make sure you had install right way!!!

you should changed all ignition cables or spark plug wires!!and plugs!!

then make sure you have gas in the tank!!

Getting car started after fuel filter change??????

just serviced and changed the fuel filter on my mondy 2.0 tdci 130 bhp and it wont start, just ran for around 30 seconds, then died. we tried vacumning the air out of the filter, return pipe and even the fuel rails but to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions on any remedies as i'm running out of ideas???? My mates been a star tonight but we ran out of daylight and options of what to do.

    Cheers,

    Phil.
Getting car started after fuel filter change??????
should try holding the pedal wide open and turning the motor over could spray statrting fluid in the air intake but it should start without it
Getting car started after fuel filter change??????
There should be a bleed valve on the fuel filter.
You may have an air lock - try taking outlet pipe off filter, turn her over and see if fuel is coming through.
spray WD 40 into the throttle body as you start the engine. It will run as long as your spraying and hopefully will purge the air out of the lines while its running.
Should have primed the filter first, most bhave a little black pump, now prime the filter make sure it is full. slacken the banjo union on the pump and crank until fuel flows out, then charge the battery and keep cranking. when it does start floor the throttle and let it rev as it will probably try to die again .

You shoud have floored the throttle when you started it first time after changing the fuel filter let it rev till the air work its way through, again you should have done it with the engine hot to make it easier to crank.
Is it petrol or diesel? What age? Engine size? These are all factors. I have had Fords with diesel engines and found that after a fuel filter change that the problem was in the hand primer mounted on the fuel filter housing drawing air. Try sealing between the primer button and the housing with silicone. if this solves the problem you should replace the filter housing/hand primer.
one thing that is could be if it will just turn over and not start is the fuel injector sometimes if you replace fuel filter but dumps some of the gross stuff in the line again it will clogg ur fuel pump and not be able to start
Spray carberetor cleaner or starter fluid in while cranking: engine will run on that until fuel pump can refill system. WD-40 isn't best option- its a lube, not a fuel.

Is the fuel pump mechanical (unlikely) or electric? Check by listening for fuel pump running as you switch on ignition. If therre's a %26quot;ticking%26quot; noise, you're god to go.
You need to crack the lines leading to your fuel injectors. i.e. crack the hose leading from the tank to the filter and make sure you have fuel, crack the line after the filter making sure you have fuel, and then cracking the line probably up at the fuel injectors themselves. All you have to do is open the line enough to bleed the air out.
Start again!remove the fuel filter and fill it with either new clean diesel, or as we do in the garage, fill it with Forte diesel conditioner. That lets it run for long enough to purge the air out of the system.Hope this helps,
1st Check that the filter has sealed properly.

2nd Open all the pipes on the injectors and turn the engine over until all the pipes have fuel coming out of them then tighten the pipes back up then try to start the car again.

3rd If that does not work tow the car in 2nd gear until it starts.
You should have filled the new fuel filter with fresh diesel first it is possible to get it into the pipes going in and out of the filter .
You have a fuel lock . remove filter fill to top with diesel replace jump car with another car with both battery's fully charged then keep turning over engine until it starts , or tow start in second gear

How to change a fuel filter on a 1986 monte carlo?

how to replace a fuel filter on a 1986 monte carlo? Any help I am posting this for my husband and he is outside working on the car right now please help!
How to change a fuel filter on a 1986 monte carlo?
That car should have a 305 V8 with a carburetor, which then would most likely be a Rochester Quadrajet. On the front of the carb, where the fuel line goes in, there is a hollow part that the fuel filter is inside of. At least if it hasn't been replaced with a different one, usually somewhere in the fuel line, between the fuel pump and the carb. The back side of that part will be a hex head, to put a wrench on, usually 1 inch size. That part should be held with a wrench while the fuel line is disconnected from the front, then unscrew that part from the carb. Be careful putting it back on, that the threads don't get crossed, or that it is over-tightened, as they do strip out fairly easy. The paper filter inside goes with the end that has an opening in it towards the fuel line side. Oh, also, there's a spring that goes behind it. That is to say, put that in towards the carb, before the filter.
How to change a fuel filter on a 1986 monte carlo?
have him look on the frame rail i cant remember which side its on ,but it should be located about half way under the car, good luck.
it on the driver side on mine about where drive seat is
have him look to see if it has a mehanical fuel pump. it might be there if it is you will be able to see a caister thing on the under side of fuel pump. if its not there follow the fuel line back from the carb. it will be a in line filter, must likely between the carb and the fuel pump.

What is the benefit of a fuel filter change?

I had it done according to service manual recommendations--I was just wondering.
What is the benefit of a fuel filter change?
A fuel filter change is good thing to do because it keeps little dirt and particles from entering the engine, which can, in turn, cause alot of problems down the road. They are also good to change because like with most filters, they get plugged. A plugged fuel filter can, alot of times, keep a car from running. One the most common problems we run into.
What is the benefit of a fuel filter change?
If the filter is clogged it will restrict the flow of fuel to your engine. If it isn't getting the amount of fuel it needs then you will lose power and it can sputter. Normally replaced as a precaution.
    better gas mileage.

How do you change a fuel filter on a 2002 jeep grand cherokee?
I'm not specifically familiar with this arrangement, but most of them have two nuts that you need to put wrenches on and turn in opposite directions. Or, one nut stays stationary and the other nut turns and loosens the filter from the fuel line. Hope that helps.
How do you change a fuel filter on a 2002 jeep grand cherokee?
This is not the wright answer, there are not any nuts on the filter at all. There are some push clips on the fuel line that require a tool to take them apart. If someone does not know the wright answer why would they answer at all?

The Jeep grandcherokee is the only jeep in the family to have any external filter infront of the gas tank. There is not tool needed push the fuel lines in and pinch plastic keepers together and pull. This is also one of the few jeeps to have a cabin air filter too.

if it isnt the nuts there, you are probably talking about a quick disconnect. i think you should just be able to pull on the colored clips, they should slide, then after they are released the lines should pull right off, but be carfull, a car that old tends to lead to frail plastic lines, and the quick disconnect is very easy to break.
if your still having problems goto your local auto parts store and see if they have a tool to remove the filters - the cheap ones are made out of plastic, and work just fine.

to use it push the line into the filter, then the removal tool until it stops, then remove the line, %26amp; repeat on the other side of the filter. try not to be laying right under the filter when removing, the gas will burn on your skin and it smells bad too.
The fuel filter is inside the gas tank. Drain the tank and lower it down. You will find your fuel pump mounted on top.

My 2008 4.3 Mercruiser will not start after fuel filter change.?

Engine sputters when cranked but dies imediately. Was running fine before I changed the filter. Does the filter need filling with fuel before puting it back on?
My 2008 4.3 Mercruiser will not start after fuel filter change.?
%26gt;i%26lt; has it right. The owners manual says 2/3 full of fuel. I don't know why not full, but.......clearly air is in the system. You need to bleed the system Use a competent marine mechanic. OR get a service manual for your specific engine and follow the instructions carefully, there are hazards when doing this job. Good luck!
My 2008 4.3 Mercruiser will not start after fuel filter change.?
the fuel filter has a direction of flow maybe you put it in the wrong way if so you might need to but a new one because you just damaged it by putting it in backwards.
It doesn't need to be filled first, it sounds like you might have put the fuel filter on the wrong way, causing it not to let the engine to have the right amount of fuel.
If your engine is MPI (fuel injected) and uses a screw-on cannister type filter, yes you have to fill it before installation.

  • How do you change the fuel filter on a 2002 Ford Explorer?

Specifically, what steps need to be taken to reduce pressure from fuel system?
How do you change the fuel filter on a 2002 Ford Explorer?
Yours is a nightmare and needs to be done preferably by a experienced person.

If you still want to tackle it, you can either disconnect the fuse/relay that powers the fuel pump and start the vehicle till it runs out of gas, or on almost all of them, their is a schrader valve (like a tire valve) on the fuel rail under the plastic cover on top of the motor.. it uses two torx fasteners near the oil filler cap

take the cover off the schrader and depress the valve till all fuel is gone.

Jack up and put jack stands under the vehicle on right side, the fuel filter is under a cover, just behind the right exhaust the cover has two bolts that hold it up (there may be a few more covering some covers) but the fuel filter has two clips that use a fuel line tool (available at the national chain stores like autozone and Napa)to remove.

it pulls out of it's holder.and just reassemble and cycle the key on and off a couple of times to inspect for leaks then start and recheck for leaks.

But IMO, this fuel filter and the one on my old f-150 are the worst ones and is worth paying a professional mechanic for the heartache
How do you change the fuel filter on a 2002 Ford Explorer?
Follow the fuel line to the filter. Mine was on the driver side under the door frame and I had to unbolt it from chasis. It had some-kind-of nipple interlock that freed by pushing or pulling.
first you need to get a specalty tool that fits into the connector where the fuel lines fit into the filter just put the tool around the line push it towards the filter while pulling on the line it should pop right off but it is a bear....good luck

I am looking for step by step instructions; do I need to shut the fuel off somehow first? Will fuel spray out at me? Should I do it on an empty gas tank?
How do I change a fuel filter on a 2000 Ford Windstar LX?
the fuel filter should be under the right side (when you sit in the driver seat). You will see two metal tubes go into a larger metal tube. The large one is your fuel filter. Get two line wrenches to fit the two nuts and loosen the nuts. Put a bucket under it because there is going to be residual fuel in the line when you disconect it. Take out the old one and tighten the new one in. Replace any brackets that held the old filter in. It may take a second for your car to start afterwards because the lines need to be primed again. Hope that helps.
How do I change a fuel filter on a 2000 Ford Windstar LX?
    a
    Its a ford dont bother!!
there is a fuse in the fuse panel... pull the fuse out for the fuel pump relay and then start the engine... let it run until it dies on it's own to take the pressure out of the lines... the fuel filter should be located on the drivers side between the back of the drivers door and the rear tire.... undo the strap holding the filter in place... ford has a %26quot;quick disconnect%26quot; fitting on their filters that take a special tool that can be bought at most parts stores - don't worry they aren't very expensive... that tool fits around the fuel line and slides into the end of the filter sometimes you have to press it in pretty firmly... this will release the lock that keeps the line from falling out... and then gently pull on the fuel line... if it hasn't been changed in several years it can be a real pain in the butt to get to release... do the other side the same way and then push the ends of the fuel line on to the new filter and reattach the strap around the filter... re-install the fuse and turn the key to the on position.... be sure to check for leaks.... hope this helps and good luck with it
FORD FUEL FILTER REQUIRE A SPECIAL TOOL TO REMOVE THE PLASTIC LOCKS AT EACH END OF THE FILTER. OTHERWISE YOU CAN DAMAGE THEM. THEY ARE THE ONLY THING THAT HOLD IT TOGETHER SO THERE NO LEAK.

JACK UP THE VEHICLE AND USE SAFETY STANDS. TAKE SPECIAL TOOL AND DEPRESS THE LOCK. THERE WILL A SMALL AMOUNT OF GAS COMING OUT. IT IS THE PRES SUE IN THE FUEL LINE. SO NO SMOKING IN THE AREA. THE OTHER END COME A PART THE SAME WAY. TO INSTALL THE NEW FILTER. PRESS THE LINE INTO THE FILTER. yOU SHOULD HEAR A CLICK. tEST BY TRYING TO PUT THE OUT OF THE FILTER. tHE OTHER END GO THE SAME WAY. IT IS INSTALLED. THIS IMPORTANT! tURN THE KEY ON FIVE OR SIX TIMES. tHIS BUILD THE PRESSURE UP IN THE FUEL LINE. tHEN START THE VEHICLE AND CHECK FOR LEAKS AT THE FILTER. IF THERE LEAKS THEN CUT THE ENGINE OFF. THE LINES IS NOT ALL THE WAY IN THE FILTER. AND REPEAT THE START UP. tHERE SHOULD BE NO LEAKS AT ALL.

Yes fuel line remover Auto Zone sells it for $6.00
Auto supply has them. Fuel line disconnector will get them. There are several sizes, usually come as a kit. They are plastic, round, about size of half dollar.
MAKE SURE YOU USE THE SPECIAL TOOL TO REMOVE CLIPS BECAUSE IF YOU DAMAGE SOMETHING YOU WILL HAVE TO BUY THE WHOLE FUEL LINE ASSEMBLY.

How much it will cost for oil and fuel filter change service?

our local Wal-Mart auto service does oil changes for around $20. I don't know about the fuel filter, tho'. Probably your best bet would be to call those service shops you mentioned and compare their rates, and then choose. Where you are located may offer different rates than we can tell you on here.
How much it will cost for oil and fuel filter change service?
They usually replace the oil filter with an oil change. A fuel filter I believe is around 12 bucks (I could be wrong) but idk how much to put it on.
    $80-$100
    Under 75 dollars
That's a loaded question ---- it all depends on where you live, some states have higher oil recovery tax than others and the cost of living has a lot to do with the charges you will be billed; however, it should run you not more than $40.00 for both oil and fuel filters changed out with lube.
depends is change filter original than cost 40 to 80

i play for my car $40 , but am not US
Jiffy lube is about $ 30, but if you have a aaa card you can get 10% off, thanks
look it up online to see how to do it yourself. Honestly it is idiot proof and it will save you 50%. No joke. Go to Wal-Mart look up your make model and year of your vehicle and get the supplies and do it yourself. You could probably save a couple hundred bucks every year by doing it yourself.

Where is the fuel filter on a 91 corvette?

I am an 18 yr old female and I am trying to change the fuel filter . I can not find its location on the car. Would it be under the hood or rear ? and where at?
Where is the fuel filter on a 91 corvette?
Well the fuel pump, and sending unit are surprisingly EASY to change on that car, the filler door and shrouding come off, tank stays in place, believe it or not. But you will have to get under car to find the filter, you'll have to follow the fuel line at frame. It will be a canister about 4 inches long. That might have a tin cover that has to be removed first, I can't recall exactly.
Where is the fuel filter on a 91 corvette?
There is also one in the gas tank itself you will have to drop the tank and change it. your best bet is to get a manual on the car.
it right back by the rear end ! you are going to have to jack the car up in the back and it should be right by there rear deferential!! between the rear tires or back further by the gas tank
above the gas tank.................its hell to replace

Where is Fuel Filter on Holden Barina MH Hatchback?

I need to change my fuel filter but I cannot find it. I drive a Holden Barina MH Hatchback. Where is my fuel filter?
Where is Fuel Filter on Holden Barina MH Hatchback?
    on the fuel rail
Where is Fuel Filter on Holden Barina MH Hatchback?
This answer doesn't really help unless you know what and where the fuel rail is. The fuel filter is actually at the front left hand corner of the petrol tank (just in front of the left rear wheel). It is clipped in place behind a cover plate which has 2 x 10mm bolts holding it on to the chassis.

Would like to know why my car want start after replacing fuel pump, filter and fuel relay?

I have a 1987 Buick Lesabre Custom.I replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, and fuel relay. After I finish installing all the parts I turned the ignition switch and my car started right up.I did this job Sunday October 22,2006.Since then my car has not been able to start up and the battery keeps running down. Can some one tell me why I am not able to start my car or why the battery keeps running down,The car has a full tank of gas?Never did lose any gas from changing out the fuel filter or fuel pump.I have done what the answers that the guys gave me on this site and My father installed all the parts for me on my car he retired as a ASE Master Mechanic 48yrs as a mechanice and in the business.I went back and check the wiring for the fuel pump and it installed correctly and I changed out the fuel relays cause they are 20 yrs old.I have done everything that the guys here suggested that I do and the car still want start.Anymore suggestion?
Would like to know why my car want start after replacing fuel pump, filter and fuel relay?
If you checked the wiring and you have voltage to the pump-and its not running -its a bad pump.If it is running-check the pressure relief valve.
Would like to know why my car want start after replacing fuel pump, filter and fuel relay?
sounds like air in the system, you need to prime the system, and check all electrical.
I'd be interested to know why you replased those parts in the first place. Did you have starting problems before?

I gather the car is cranking but not starting.

Check the distributor, wires, plugs to make sure everything is connected.
If you have already re-checked the pump wiring, forget about it being the source of your problem, and start th diagnostics fresh.

    Is the PCM fuse blown?

is the fuel pump fuse blown?

While there is still some battery power left (unless it has already gone COMPLETELY dead), retrieve the diagnostic codes from the computer.

    For a discussion of the procedure, along with illustration and a list of definitions, go here------%26gt;

    http://autorepair.about.com/library/ts/o鈥?/a>

...and scroll down below the definitions for the procedure.

If there are codes displayed, follow the proper diagnosis and repair procedures recommended for the circuit, and don't assume that a code for a MAP sensor is NECESSARILY a defective MAP sensor. It COULD very well be a broken vacuum line To the sensor.

When you turn the key to %26quot;Run%26quot; without starting it, can you hear a %26quot;HUM%26quot; from the tank area? You should be able to hear it for 1 - 2 seconds after the key is turned on, then it will stop unless the engine is running.

Is there spark from the ignition coil when the engine is cranking?

If there is the %26quot;HUM%26quot; is there pressure at the test port?

If there is fuel, but no spark, check for the pulses at the injectors while it is cranking. If there are no pulses, and no spark, (or only one of the two) check for a failed cam/crank sensor at the front of the engine. Very Common failure for this vintage G.M. product.

As for the battery not holding a charge, the best thing you can do (AFTER finding the cause of not running) is to disconnect the battery and install a test light between the cable and the post. If there is a substantial draw, the light will illuminate. With that connection made, begin to remove the fuses ONE at a TIME and watch the light. When the light changes ( or goes out) that is the circuit you need to address for the cause of draining the battery.

This should give you plenty to do and give you some direction for the repair. Your dad's expertise will direct the rest of the diagnosis and repair.

  • Where is the Fuel Filter located on a 91 jimmy?

2 hours ago the car started fine. now it has a healthy crank but just doesn't want to turn over. I had a tip to change the fuel filter.

I believe its under the air filter but does any one know for sure? thanks.

and a procedure to change the fuel filter would be great too. along with other suggestions for why it wont start. (not the battery/starter/alternator).

    Thanks in advance.
Where is the Fuel Filter located on a 91 jimmy?
Under the vehicle by the fuel tank on the passanger side; reason... the coil on your starter could need to be changed or fuse on the ignition could have gone out. The fuel filter is just keeping the engine clean, has nothing to do with your car starting
Where is the Fuel Filter located on a 91 jimmy?
I think you have a carbeurator not fuel injectors; so i'm thinking there aren't fuel filters. You should have jets that spray fuel into the carb...those may be clogged.
It's mounted on the frame under the driver side door...oh wait, that's the location for the '96 model. But try on yours, it may be in the same spot. Good luck!

P.S. You're probably looking at a fuel pump problem...
How do you know your battery, alt, starter is good? Did you have a volt meter put on your battery and alternator???

Fuel filters seldom stop a car from just starting only.....a bad fuel filter will make the car miss and hesitate and run rough.......anyhow, I would take this vehicle to an oil change joint that does wipers, bulbs, filters etc and have them change it.....more than likely that filter is down by the fuel tank......I had mine changed on a 94 cavalier parts and labor for $55.00 and drank coffee while they did it.......keep your eye on the anti freeze in this vehicle if it has Gm Dex Cool.....it may not, but Dex cool has a bad rep on gumming up like mud in Blazers and Jimmys.....check it out. driveway mechanic*******

Do you have to drop the gas tank when wanting to change the fuel filter on a 1999 plymouth voyager?

what are the symptoms if you have a partically plugged/restricted fuel filter?
Do you have to drop the gas tank when wanting to change the fuel filter on a 1999 plymouth voyager?
Fuel filter should be located near the fuel pump located in the engine bay. (at least it is on my chevy). The filter is fairly small, inexpensive; just make sur eyou clamp the line before and after to make sure any residual gas in the line doesn't spill out.
Do you have to drop the gas tank when wanting to change the fuel filter on a 1999 plymouth voyager?
Im not really sure about the plymouth but i believe you can remove the fuel filter with out dropping the tank. One of the symptoms of a clogged filter is reduce Fuel efficiency.
nah its at the end of the fuel tank under the van so it should be easy to get to symptoms could be bad gas mileage, no start due to it being clogged
it should be located right along the frame on the drivers side. symptoms? well it will stall, hard starting, poor pick-up.
no. you would have to do that to change the Fuel Pump which is in the tank of all fuel injected cars. If you have a restricted fuel filter than you won't get sufficent fuel flow and when you try accelerating the car will bog down and/or stall

How do I change the fuel filter on a 1999 Chevy Cavalier?

I need to know where the filter is located and if it's feasible to change it myself on level ground.
How do I change the fuel filter on a 1999 Chevy Cavalier?
On your 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier 2.2L SFI , the Fuel Filter is located:

Under vehicle, center, below rear seating area, rear passenger side of fuel tank, mounted in fuel line

Crawl under this location and see how accessible it is. But when you disconnect the lines, gas spurts out all over the place unless you first relieve the fuel pressure at the schrader valve on the fuel injection rail on top of the engine. Unscrew the schrader valve cap and with safety glasses and rag, push down the valve pin (just like on a tire valve) to let some gas out. Careful of the fire hazard.
How do I change the fuel filter on a 1999 Chevy Cavalier?
I have a 99 sunfire and I have changed mine on the ground. If the cars are the same, which they usally are, It is located just behind the rear axle. Chances are though, if you don't have a kit to take off the quick lock, you will be spending a nice amount of time down there.

Does anyone have a Jeep Grand Cherokee that they have to change the fuel filter on?

There seems to be a special tool needed to disconnect the fuel line from the end of the filter . Anybody know how this works and if you need a special tool where do you get it?
Does anyone have a Jeep Grand Cherokee that they have to change the fuel filter on?
The special tool is a spring lock disconnect. Available at auto store. They come in a packege with different sizes. They should show you how to use it. You will need new o rings of proper size also. I have vehicles with 100k miles and have never found a need to change a fuel filter. Be sure you know what you are doing as fuel lines are under 40psi or so.
Does anyone have a Jeep Grand Cherokee that they have to change the fuel filter on?
i just changed one on a 95 jeep and all i used was a pair of pliers just pinch the gray plastic peace and pull on the fuel line then push it up so gas doesn't go everywhere and do the front the same then take the plastic clips off and reuse them on the new fuel filter

Can anyone point me to a link on how to change the fuel filter on my Ford Focus?
Jack up the rear of the vehicle, or raise it up on a lift. The fuel filter is located rearward of the fuel tank, but forward of the right/rear wheel. It's always best to replace with OEM filter. At $9.74 (part number FG-986-B from Ford), price shouldn't be an issue. The following are the steps for removal and installation.

    Disconnect the evaporative emission pipe.

Remove the fuel filter outlet pipe.

Disconnect the fuel filter inlet pipe.

Remove the 8mm bolt securing the fuel filter and bracket to the body of the vehicle.

    Remove the fuel filter.

    Remove the 7mm bolt.

    Slide out the fuel filter.

    Installation

NOTE: Observe the direction of flow arrow.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.

    Hope this helps.
Can anyone point me to a link on how to change the fuel filter on my Ford Focus?
Fuel filters are different sizes, but the one you have can be blown backward with high pressure air- and re-installed.

The round filter uses two pressure fittings that only need be unscrewed. The filter is on the side of the frame between the

rear tank and the front seats.

Replace it or blow it out- most likely it is not a problem- they only need replacing if someone dumped sugar in your tank.

  • Changing my fuel filter on a '02 GTI 1.8t?

Is it located in the gas tank? What is the best way to get at it?

What kind of filter? Will napa or Autozone know just one to use? All fule filter are pretty much the same right?

    Any special tools?
Changing my fuel filter on a '02 GTI 1.8t?
It's located behind the right rear wheel housing liner. I have seen one briefly and it looks like it had quick disconnects that you squeeze in the plastic pieces and pull the lines off. I couldn't see both sides of it though, but I'm sure you will figure it out once you see it. I think a NAPA or Autozone filter, provided they carry it, should work fine. I can usually tell by the labor time approx. how difficult it is. I think it pays 0.4 so it can't be that bad.
Changing my fuel filter on a '02 GTI 1.8t?
changing your fuel filter are sample, you can do it in your driver you may need small can or pan when you get ready to unhook you fuel line to fuel filter it just small amount of fuel come off the line.make sure to take the battery cable out, jack your car up and follow your fuel line from your fuel tank should be at the sub frame around your driver side door. you only need a screw driver and socket wrench to take the bracket out. Auto Zone or NAPA should have the parts you need or get repair manual to get a better idea.

You really don't have to worry about a fuel filter unless you are buying really cheap gas. And as for changing it, unless you know exactly what you are doing it's best to leave it up to a professional with the right tools.

Where do u go for a fuel filter change?

where do u go for a fuel filter change ?
Where do u go for a fuel filter change?
It depends on the vehicle. Some are very easy to get to ( especially on older, carburated models ) but others are much more difficult. However, any mechanic/shop should be able to do it as it is part of basic maintenance ( so it's a pretty safe assumption that they have done them before on the same model of car that you have ).
Where do u go for a fuel filter change?
You can take it about anywhere to get a filter change i wouldnt reccomend jiffylube bbut anybody that does mechanic work can change one for you
its not a hard job to do!, just get some shadetree mec. to change it for you, give them a few bucks and you and him both will be happy. why spend alot of money for a garage to do it?
i would say almost any garage would do it but best option i would say is either the dealer you got it of or the make garage if you no what i mean

Where is it located, and how do I change fuel filter on a 1999 Pontiac Trans Am.?

Do I need any special wrenches. Do I need to pull the fuse on the pump before removal or ground? Is it also under any extreme pressure?
Where is it located, and how do I change fuel filter on a 1999 Pontiac Trans Am.?
Along the frame at the rear of the vehicle in front of the gas tank.

Yes it is under pressure. Remove the fuel pump fuse and start the engine. After it has stalled out restart it again and make sure that it fails to start. Remove the filter.

Wear safety glasses while performing this operation.
Where is it located, and how do I change fuel filter on a 1999 Pontiac Trans Am.?
Fuel filter should be drivers side rear on the inside of the frame rail. Remove fuel pump fuse and crank motor a couple seconds to relieve pressure. DO NOT USE TROUBLE LIGHT. If gas spills on light it will ignite. Use flashlight or similar battery powered light just to be safe. If the filter is original, you may need tubing wrenches to avoid rounding fittings.

Dose the gas tank need to be empty to change the fuel filter?
It does not have to be empty. Just remove the fuel cap to depressurize it so it does not spray all over the place. Some fuel will spill though no matter what you do.
pull fuel pump fuse let motor run till it stalls

thatll depressurize it can change it anytime
If you have to ask these questions, you should go to a mechanic; unless you want to clean to gene pool.
you don,t have to empty it just take the pressure off of it. the way i do it on my 88 oldsmobile i just take the cap off.

How do I deal with rusted fittings on a fuel filter?

I am attempting to change the fuel filter under my 88 c1500, but the fittings have rusted together so well that I can't make any progress. I tried spraying it with PB Blaster and that didn't work. I even sprayed it and let it sit overnight, yet there was nothing. Now one fitting (fuel tank side of filter) is just about stripped out, and still nothing is any looser than when I began. Any suggestions from anyone else who has had this problem?
How do I deal with rusted fittings on a fuel filter?
I don't know to much about cars, but maybe you shoud take it to the auto shop.
How do I deal with rusted fittings on a fuel filter?
You can buy new fittings. Just cut it and replace. If you have Auto Parts Discount or Pep Boy;s both carry the quick connects
Well it's probably too late now if it's almost stripped but a tubing wrench is usually the best way to get them loose. It looks like a box end wrench with a slot to fit over the tubing. It must be really bad if PB Blaster didn't work.Sounds like it's going to be a cut and splice job.
try using a pair of vise grips.

What kind of tool is used to remove a fuel filter?

I have a 2004 Ford Explorer. We are going to change the fuel filter. I am told a couple things. First, it's hard because on my model it is above the fuel tank and second, that there is a special tool for removing the filter. Any information on how to properly replace the filter and what this tool looks like would be great. Pictures would also be appreciated. Thank you!
What kind of tool is used to remove a fuel filter?
its called a ford quick relese tool, go to any parts store and say what you need, they will have it, it is however a pain in the butt, because you will wrestle with it if youve never done it
What kind of tool is used to remove a fuel filter?
its like a bike chain on a lever that has a handle and has you turn it it tightens

i think they are called oil filter removers i know it isn't a fuel filter but i think it is the same thing to be honest
I don't think that there is any special tool to remove a fuel filter, but I bet if there is it isn't an oil filter tool! If it is above the fuel tank, you may have to drop the fuel tank to get to it. I've never seen a fuel filter that needed any special tool to remove it.
First... If you change the filter, make sure the key is off. You will have fuel leaking, the fuel lines are under 60psi of pressure.

Secound... Raising the vehicle will make life much easier, if you do it on the ground you will get soaked in fuel.

Third... One side of the filter should be threaded and the other a quick clip. The threaded side should be a 3/4 wrench and a 5/8 wrench. Their is a special tool for the quick clip, but you can manage with a pair of needle nose plyers.

Have fun and dont smoke while doing this!
You do not really need any special tool ,if you are familiar with how it works you can get it off with a small screwdriver or some needlenose pliars. The tool is very inexpensive and if you have never done it then go and get you one. Just ask for a fuel line disconnect tool for your vehicle. Dont forget to look at the arrow and install the filter the right direction - sometimes they can hook up either way sometimes only one way.

How to tell if your fuel filter was clogged?

I changed the fuel filter on my 01 Pontiac Grand Am and dirty fuel came out the inlet side of the filter and clean fuel came out the outlet side. Is this common of a clogged fuel filter?
How to tell if your fuel filter was clogged?
A clogged fuel filter would not provide the proper fuel pressure and fuel volume per unit time even though the fuel pump was functioning properly. Dirt in itself does not mean any filter is bad, including air filters, fuel filters, oil filters etc. In fact, when a filter starts %26quot;loading up%26quot; with particulates (dirt etc), it actually filters better than when it's brand new as long as the minimum pressure and volume are maintained. You can often get 80,000 miles use out of a fuel filter and it will still be providing the pressure and volume required. However, if you run your tank dry, water and sediment from the bottom of the tank can be pumped up into the filter, so it's recommended that you change the filter if you run out of fuel.
How to tell if your fuel filter was clogged?
if the filter is out side the fule tank then just take the filter loos and check the presser from the fule pump if you changed it and you thing the new one is pluged make shure you put it on the right way thare shood be a flow arrow on the filter hope this helped
very common .you could blow threw it and then blow threw the new one and compare ,or you could cut the old filter up and see how dirty it was.
yes, you'll see that every time :)

My car is missing. I have changed out spark plugs, changed fuel filter, fresh oil changed. What else could be?
Somebody might have high Jacked it and took it for a spin then left it there then stole another.
is it fuel injected as it could be one of the injectors not working to find out which cylinder is missfiring you will need to disconect one of the H/T leads (spark plug wires) one at a time as it is running, if the engine dies or stalls then you will know that one is firing so go to the next one until it makes no different to the running (Missfiring) then you will have established it is that one that is missfiring hope this helps it could be complicated to suggest this to a novice if you do decide to pull of the H/T leads while the engine is running make sure you use a insulated pair of pliers as you could get a nasty kick from the electrics as there is quite a high voltage

I have a ryobi gas trimmer, how do i change the fuel filter?

the fuel filter is inside the tank, there is no opening for the fuel filter. the only thing i could do is to push the fuel line down into the tank and shake it out of the fuel hole on the tank. but then how would it get it back the hole for the fuel line?

    Thanks

I have a ryobi gas trimmer, how do i change the fuel filter?
Take a piece of wire and bend a hook on one end. Use the hook to get a hold of the gas line in the tank and pull it gently to the fill hole. The filter will come off the end of the hose. Put on the new filter and drop it back into the fill hole. Done.

What happens if you change your fuel pump on your car without changing the fuel filter?

had a mechanic replace the fuel pump on my chevy van because the engine would crank but not turn over. car ran fine for a week then same problem, crank but no turn over. brought it back to him and he said it started right up. drove it for a week then same problem, crank but no start. brought it back to him this third time, and he replaced the neutral safety switch. car ran for about a week then same problem, crank but no start. by this time, i figure he's ripping me off or doesn't know what he's doing. i decide to take to another shop and they tell me its bad fuel pump, the very same problem first shop was supposed to fix. gave this new shop permission to replace pump again (if it was ever replaced the first time). this shop told me that the first shop never even replaced the fuel filter. even if the first shop had replaced the fuel pump, by not replacing the filter at the same time, could this have been the cause of my vehicle continually breaking down?
What happens if you change your fuel pump on your car without changing the fuel filter?
The fuel filter doesn't usually plug up completely all at once. The sign of a dirty fuel filter is lack of power or cannot maintain highway speeds. The engine will usually start with a dirty fuel filter because there is enough gas getting through to start the engine.

It could just be the fuel filter relay. My nephew had this same problem. It appeared as if the fuel pump was not working but before changing the pump we checked the relay. A new relay is about $20 and you can get a used one at a scrap yard.
What happens if you change your fuel pump on your car without changing the fuel filter?
not changing a fuel filter when u changed the fuel pump is like taking a shower and putting on the same dirty clothes feels good for the moment then u start to smell sooner than later
    pluasably very likely

sometimes it happens that a new pump will only last a short time.

aftermarket electric pumps of the less expensive grade are a bit notorious for it but always want new filter AND SOCK... with a new pump
I would be looking at the coil or the ignition. The ignition has contacts in it if they are not operating right it could well be it but also have the coil checked out.I don't think the problem your having is the fuel system. Also replace your ignition module in the distributor that could be also related to the problem of it not starting.Because all of what your saying I believe is in the ignition system and not the fuel system. The next time it doesn't start check to see if you have spark at the plugs by pulling one of them and hook up a spark tester you can get at a parts store will have them.Place the spark tester on the spark plug wire and watch for a spark but have someone else turn the ignition to the start position and crank it.If no spark your problem is in the ignition primary side which is the coil or the ignition module in the distributor if you have the coil in the cap type of ignition. If you have any other questions email me at hgm20002000@yahoo.com

How do i change the fuel filter on a 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis?

My car cut off on me and isn't starting, i try to crank it and it sounds like its out of gas....but it has a half tank of gas in it, i was told it is probably the fuel filter....the car has a new battery, and alternator is good,
How do i change the fuel filter on a 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis?
I did it on my Maxima 92, and it was easy.. just look up for the filter. It's usually behind the motor, near the windshield. Once you know where it is, disconect the hose from both sides of the filter with a screwdriver and place the new one. tight them well, but not overtightened.

-(The filter has an out and an intake flow, make sure you don't reverse those when placing the new one).

-(The hose will have a certain gasoline pressure if your car uses a gas pump, so be careful with your eyes).

-(When you have the old one out, blow through it from the same way gasoline flows and see if it's blocked. Blow the new one too so you can see the difference. If the old one was kind of blocked or dirty, but it wasn't the problem of your car, at least you replaced a not so good filter).

Nobody warranties that's gonna be problem.

But if you wanna go ahead and do it I wish you good luck.
How do i change the fuel filter on a 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis?
Q- follow the fuel lines from the tank it will take you to the filter, but, do you have a mechanical pump or an electric pump? if you have an electric one have some one get in and turn the key into the run position, the spot the key goes back to after you start the car. open the fuel tank, like your putting gas in, and listen for a low volume whine. if that is present then find the filter, if it's not present then replace the fuel pump.

have you been adding any fuel treatments to keep fuel system clean might not need a fuel filter at all

a cup of water wil kill it and it just takes one bad tank of fuel so add a botle of fuel treatment dont run your tank low on fuel more so in winter months tank sweat when you do causes water most likey problem

if it is a manual pump, diapraghm is no good, if it is electric, check fuses and connections, if all are good, pump in tank is no good

Does a clogged fuel filter prevent a Hyundai from Starting?

I have a 2001 Hyundai Accent GL 5 speed manual trans. The car won't start. I can here the starter motor clicking, but the engine won't crank. I want to know if a clogged fuel filter can cause this problem. I'd rather change the fuel filter first (which has never been changed, ever) before I remove the hard to access starter motor. Tell me if this can cause the engine to not crank.

Also, if you have any diagrams or resources to change the fuel filter, i'd appreciate it.

A clogged fuel filter could keep it from running but has nothing to do with the engine turning over. Check the battery first and make sure it is OK (make sure the post are clean also), if it is all right than check the starter.

It could keep the engine from running ,but it wouldn't keep the engine from turning over , i would say that you have a weak battery ,loose battery cable or the starter is bad . If it's the starter you should be able to PUSH start the car by turning the key on with the transmission in third gear ,now hold the clutch in until the car is moving around 5 - 10 mph, then let off (up) of the clutch , when the engine starts push both clutch %26amp; brake in(down) to stop the car.
its the starter... its happened to three of my old cars. if it was fuel it would turn over but never start. it you hear a clicking noise and nothing happens its the starter. sorry it wasnt something easier but dont waste time and money with a fuel filter. i have a 87 chevy with the original filter they dont get that clogged.
your starter solenoid is probly shot!

How often should the FUEL filter be changed on a 2004 Chev Cavalier? What about auto transmission service?

    Transaxle:if it's an automatic, it's a %26quot;sealed%26quot; transaxle=100k.

    if it's manual=every 30k

    fuel filter=every 70k

Check owners manual for service intervals. But fuel filter should be changed approximately every 60,000 miles about same for trans. service
Change the fuel filter every year or about 15-20,000 miles. Auto trans service every 25-30,000 depending on severity of service.
    Check your owner's manual
Look in the owners manual, it has a schedule of when everything needs to be changed, I change my fuel filter even other oil change and do the tranny every 3 oil changes (12,000)
Unless the owner's manual says to change the fuel filter, do not touch it...The fuel system is a 'closed' circuit and should never need opening, except perhaps to clean fuel injectors.

(My wife was bilked out of $50 for a fuel filter that did not have to be changed on her Honda CR-V...I got the money back against strong protest from the shop - E-Z Lube in N. Hollywood, CA.)

Same for auto trans service, check the owner's manual for guidance.

Bottom line - it is the driver/owner's responsibility to know what service or maintenance is needed on a their vehicle...Otherwise, one is wide open for extra work and over payments.

    All the best.
fuel filter about every 30k miles. tranny service about every 50k miles
I would change the fuel filter at 25,000 miles and change the tranny fluid and filter at 50,000.
