Can anyone give me tips on changing the fuel filter on a 1999 Hyundai Elantra?

best thing I can think of if you wanna do it yourself, buy the fix it manual from a store like auto zone it should give you step by step instructions %26quot;look to see if one is already opened first and read that section to see if you are able to do it by yourself before you buy the manual.|||IT IS BEST TO SALE YOUR CAR FOR A REASONABLE PRICE AND TRY FOR A NEW SKODA OR HONDA CIVIC WHICH GIVE MORE MILE AGE COMPARED TO ELANTRA|||I don%26#039;t have a 99 Elantra, I own an 02 model. In my car the fuel filter is under the back seat. You have to unbolt the seat to change it, but it%26#039;s easy to do. Just make sure you put the fuel filter in correctly.

If you have more questions, you can go to hyundaiperformance.com and they may be able to help too.

Changing Fuel Filter?

I bought a new fuel filter for my 97 honda civic but ive never changed it before. The box says warning fuel system pressurized, does this have to be done with a machine? or is it something simple where i can just remove and swap it out?|||If you know where the filter is and you have the tools, then go for it. But when you remove the old filter expect some gas to come out and have a safe place to catch it. Easy job 10 min if you know how to use your tools.|||Unless you want to get sprayed in the face by a ton of gasoline, you%26#039;re going to want to depressurize your fuel system. It%26#039;s not complicated.

http://www.civicforums.com/forums/109-7t鈥?/a>

Hopefully that works. If not, keep checking that forum for instructions for your model.

When you do take it off, it will spray a little, but it won%26#039;t even be 1/10th as bad if you tried to do it improperly.|||Undo the filler cap, and pull out the fuel pump relay, turn the key on for a few seconds. Turn key off. System is depressurized.|||Just crack a line open while holding a shop rag over the line to protect you from a face full of gas. You can do that or run the car with the fuel pump relay out till the pressure runs out.

The banjo fittings on Honda%26#039;s can be super tight so make sure you use penetrating fluid and a back-up wrench so you don%26#039;t twist the fuel lines.|||you can change it. that,s just telling you there,s pressure in the tank. all you have to do is releave the pressure and change the filter.

Need advice of changing Fuel Filter.?

I have an 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix and I try to change my Fuel Filter. I can not get it loose, because it%26#039;s stuck and full of rust. I don%26#039;t want to break the Fuel line. I tried DW3 and even PB Blaster what I got recommended at Auto Zone, but I still can get it off. Any advice or help??? Thanks a lot.|||I ran into that problem one time and I just cut it off and then got 2 small pieces of gas line hose and put the new filter on with clamps.|||pay someone now before you brake it and pay someone more later|||I say just break it, If the pb blaster didn%26#039;t work through the rust then its ready to be torn off. its not hard to fix a broken fuel line, you may have been better off and I%26#039;m sure it would have been cheaper than that PB Blaster just to have fixed it|||yea it can be a pain if the filter has been neglected....if you are laying on the ground i would give up at this point..and if you are not using a proper flare wrench expect some cut knuckles... best left to a shop.. pay the price and go on to the next deal....DO NOT LISTEN TO ANY REPLY THAT SAYS HEAT THE FITTING WITH A TORCH !!!!!|||go to the parts store see if thay have a repair kit if thay do cut it off

Does changing the fuel filter improve gas mileage?

Typically no, but it saves your fuel pump from over working and burning out.

New air filters help enormously,

Keeping tires inflated to max pressure helps

Injector/car cleaners help some.

Windows rolled UP and keeping the A/C off helps a lot too if you can survive the baking (LOL)|||no it wont save you gas but it will make your car run better and takes a strain off your fuel pump.if you are looking for fuel economy try a tune up.like air filter, plugs, plug wires etc. see if that helps you save gas.good luck.|||no but it should be changed every time u change ur oil/air filter and these things together will give a slight increase in fuel consumption|||Want an easy way to improve mileage and performance and save money at the same time? This is done by adding a new fuel reformulator that was just released to the US public a few weeks ago after being tied up in govt. regulations for 10 years. You add a small amount of this formula to your gas tank every time that you buy gas. It increases your gas mileage by 7% to 19%. If you do the math, any mileage increase over 4% saves money in your pocket. It also makes older cars run better. The stuff has been tested by FOX News and NBC News affiliates. Check it out at http://www.saveongasoline.biz . Make sure you click on the MOVIES Tab to see the news reports. You can also get paid for sharing this news with others. Use the money that you make to buy a new hybrid car. Got more questions? boatclub@go.com Subject: = save gas

Changing the fuel filter in my 1976 chevy half ton pickup with a small block 400?

need a little help with my fuel filter out of my 1976 chevy cheyenn pick up truck with a small block 400 and a 2 berrel carb when i go to take the filter out it starts to spray gass how do i get it to stop spraying gass so i can change the filters|||Usually the filter in those is located in the front of the carb, you will need two wrenches, can%26#039;t remember the exact size to keep one from trying to tighten while the other is loosening. It won%26#039;t spill alot from this, just wipe it up with a rag. Otherwise someone may have added an inline filter, just get it off, and back on as quickly as possible.|||hmmm not sure|||A carbed system won%26#039;t have much residual pressure in the lines, your problem is probably very simple. My guess is that your fuel filter is located lower on the truck than the fuel tank, so when you remove the filter you%26#039;re basically just allowing the tank to drain. Get a fuel hose clamp or clamp the hose shut with some vise grips or something of the sort, and that should solve the problem.

If that%26#039;s not the problem, then maybe you do have some fuel pressure left over from when the truck was running, in which case you need to relieve that pressure somehow.... remove the gas cap

How do i change fuel filter on 1991 buick park avenue?

mechanic is talking bout charging me 40.00 for changing the fuel filter which costs 9.99..... if it%26#039;s an easy fix like changing oil and replacing oil filter, i%26#039;d like to do it my self and save myself 40.00 plus the overdrft fee that i would get from my bank! i have a 1991 buick park avenue. The fuel filter isnt under the hood. so i guess it%26#039;s under the car.|||Yes, the fuel filter is located under the car close to the fuel tank. I believe that its on the driver side, but not sure. All you%26#039;ll need is a 13/16 inch wrench and a 16mm wrench. Once you see it, you%26#039;ll understand. The other side of the filter should have a black hose with a clear clip holding the gas line onto the filter. All you need to do is push the clear clip together to release it. Also, you may want to remove the gas cap before doing this so that the fuel system won%26#039;t have pressure on it.

Does Fuel Injection Service Include Changing The Fuel Filter?

I recently drove somewhere and my car wouldn%26#039;t start up again when it was time to leave. Someone told me that it could only be a few things, because my battery was charged. It just wasn%26#039;t turning over. He thought it was the fuel filter, besides a family member had told me that they had smelled gas recently? Do you believe it%26#039;s the fuel filter if the fuel pump is working?|||if your car does not turn over,it either a starter, bad wire connection, bad ignition switch,or nuetral safety switch. fuel pump and filter has nothing to do with the car engine not turning over. fuel injection service does not include changing the filter. depending what kind of vehicles you have, most vehicles DO NOT require fuel injection service because most gasoline have a cleaning addtive in it. always get a second opinion when someone trying to sell you fuel injection or oil flush jobs|||It certainly should. If someone smells GAS around a diesel you got a problem!!!|||yes

2003 Chevy Suburban; changing the fuel filter, how?

My engine dies out when it needs additional fuel to get over bridges and overpasses. It acts like it%26#039;s starving for fuel; so I think I will start by changing the fuel filter. Where do I locate the fuel filter on the vehicle, and how difficult will it be to change it?|||Stay safe.. take it to a reputable service garage or better ..your Chevy dealership. A few bucks spent wisely can save you gas mileage and possible hundreds more if you foul up something major as you try to change this filter.

Who knows??? Your engine might need tuning or even diagnostics.|||look under your vehicle on the drivers side by the frame, it should be a round filter and theres 2 lines you have to take off, but make sure you releave the pressure first, by taking off the gas cap.|||Its easy, its below the drivers side, its located on the frame. It will be probably below the back door. it has one fuel line %26quot;metal tubing%26#039; running into one side and out the the other. Its about the size of your fist.|||it is located along the inside of the drivers side frame rail, to change it you only need a couple of wrenches, just try to avoid getting sprayed with the initial fuel pressure release.|||Follow the fuel line from the fuel tank towards the engine till you see a soda can sized canister , it should have a metal strap around it holding it to the frame. The lines are under pressure so run the truck then pull the fuel pump fuse while its still running. Use line wrenches so you don%26#039;t round down the fittings on the fuel lines. Some gas will drip out so do this in a well ventilated area. Its not hard to change but it might be hard to get off, spray some penetrating oil( PB Blaster) on it to dissolve any rust around the fittings. Install the new fuel filter ( arrow pionting towards the engine), replace the fuel pump fuse and start it up and check for leaks. The fuel filter might be about $15.00 dollars. If you can%26#039;t find it...I have heard of some cars/trucks that do have the fuel filter in the fuel tank, thats not a job for most car/truck owners.|||Ans 1 is correct. 15mm wrench needed.

Will changing the fuel filter in my car better my gas mileage?

Not really, unless it Actually clogged. Don%26#039;t throw parts at it. Just do regular matence on it and keep plenty of air in the tires and use the AC conservativly, Keep windows up at highway speeds, drive like a grandma. Drive so you use the brakes the least. 55mph is about the most efficient crusing speed. Thats about all you can do for gas milage.

Unless you go extreem and put smooth hubcaps, belly pans (or air dams) and wheel skirts to improve arodymanics. Also for some cars, upgrading the ignition may help, but costs a lot.|||Yes, but you need to also change the oil and the air filter. If you have a big car, you will always get bad gas milage.|||It couldn%26#039;t hurt. You should change all filters on a periodic basis to keep your car running the best it can. It saves on repair bills later.|||Change the fuel filter, air filter, check your tire pressure. All will help on better gas mileage.|||no it wont give you better gas milage, but it make your car start and run better.|||If the filter is dirty - yes. If the filter is not really dirty - no.

Changing a fuel filter on a F-350 Power stroke 7.3L Diesel?

I have a question. I need to change the fuel filter in a 97 F-350 7.3L Power stroke Diesel. Do i need to bleed the fuel system out after i change the filter? Or is it the same as changing one of a gas system where you just take the old one out and put a new one in and that is it. Thanks!!!! Any pointers?? Please do tell.|||On top of the fuel filter canister there will be a threaded plug. You need to take this out then turn your key on and wait till fuel fills the canister. This takes the air out. Just turning your key on won%26#039;t do it and it will vapor lock if you don%26#039;t get it bled. Easier if you have help so you can monitor the fuel at the top of your canister.|||no just turn the ign switch to the on position 2 or 3 times without starting engine to cycle pump, don%26#039;t even have to do that in most cases, as it is a self bleeding system, I just do it out of habit from the older models.

How do I go about changing the fuel filter on a 94 Explorer?

the 94 Explorer has a fuel shut off switch that is located on the passenger side or the %26#039;hump%26#039; under the carpet. Activate the switch or turn off the fuel pump.

Crank or turn yoru vehicle over several times. If it starts wait for it to stop. If it doesn%26#039;t start, you know the pressure is released.

If I remember correctly, your filter is located on the driver%26#039;s side, onthe inside of the frame rail. Unbolt the bracket, and follow the instructions that come with the filter to remove and install.

You can find exact instructions in a Chilton or Haynes manual for your vehicle.

At any rate, good luck.|||Locate it. Take the fuel line off of each side of the filter. Put in the new filter and reattach the fuel lines.|||You have to have a special tool to get them off. They are under the car on the frame rail. There are two special clamps on it (one on each end) called Garter spring clamps. You have to slide a special %26quot;sleeve tool %26quot; up inside the clamp to release the spring as you pull the filter off.

OH yea%26#039;! Get ready to take a bath in gasoline too!|||give up on changing your own oil. its LESS than 20 bux at any service station an ya prolly even squeeze em for a cup of coffee

1973 VW Super Beetle won't turn over after changing fuel filter, do you know why?

It will act like it is going to start....|||i just answered that for you....check your fuel filter for fuel, make sure you didnt flood your engine, make sure your battery isnt dead, check your spark plugs/wires, make sure you have GAS|||Turn you switch on but do not engage the starter. Leave on for ten seconds. Do this 3 or 4 times to prime the fuel system. If you do not smell a leak - try to crank the engine. If it spins over but still will not start - try depressing your gas pedal to the floor and spinning over - if it is flooded - this should clear.

hope this helps - www.trucktechautoandrv.com

http://techman77.wordpress.com/|||Did you put the filter in backwards?

Do you have to release the fuel pressure before changing the fuel filter?

97 Honda Civic. What happens if you dont?|||you could.i never do.the most ive ever done was remove the gas cap to relieve pressure in the tank.just crack the clamp/nut free from the filter and slowly loosen it til it starts leaking.let it leak for about 2 minutes.then you should be fine.the guy above me is a tool, dont listen to him.|||No you dont, there should be no pressure when the car is switched off. U will loose some fuel thats all. Anyway the fuel aint presurised in the filter, it only presurised at d injectors. Hope dis helps.|||It%26#039;s best to relieve the fuel pressure first, but you don%26#039;t have to.

The job goes easier and with less BS if you don%26#039;t have gas spilling all over the place. It%26#039;s more of a safety precaution than anything else.|||yes...........unless you want gas to spray on you

Why would my 2001 pontiac grandam 4 cylinder not start after changing the fuel filter and spark plugs?

check to make sure you have all th wires on tight and ran to the right plugs|||I believe that you did not replace the coilpacks with the tune-up, which I have found to be required, Why you may ask ? Resistance changes.|||hmmm couple possibilities.

Got wires on plugs in wrong place. Check placement

Air lock in fuel filter.

out of gas.

you do need to replace coils thats rediculous, unless they were the problem to begin with||| In some cases it possible to install a gas filter wrong but I think you%26#039;ve probably either air in the gas system line or the wrong gas filter or spark plugs or spark plug gap. There is probably a bleeder valve on the vehicles fuel rail that much looks like a bikes air valve that you can use to bleed the unwanted air out of the gas system. Check for this valve unscrew the valve bleeder cap and use a small screw driver etc to push the valve inside down and see if air comes out of it then try again to start it.Double check your air filter , spark plugs , PCV valve and the spark plug wire connections and make sure the spark plug wires are connected good and connected to the right ignition coil contacts and spark plugs too.

Hope that helps and best of luck.|||First off, does the engine crank at all?

I am going to assume the engine cranks- check the fuel filter to make sure it was put in so match the flow of fuel to the engine (some fuel filters will not let gas reverse direction and flow back to the tank).

Another possible problem on the fuel side of it is that the engine may not be able to pull fuel through a dry filter, so you may have to prime the fuel lines with fuel and try again.

On the sprak plug side, how did you replace the spark plugs- is it possible the firing order was mixed up? If the engine%26#039;s plugs are out of order, the engine would not start and at best would achieve a couple of puffs before dying.

To tell you more I would have to know what happens when you try to start the engine.

Let me know if you need any help!|||several thing can cause it not to start. it could be the fuel is,nt reaching the injectors. maybe the fuel pump regulator is bad. also maybe it,s spark instead of fuel, like module or coil. also check the pump fuse and the fuel pump.

Why would my 2001 pontiac grandam 4 cylinder not start after changing the fuel filter and spark plugs?

Dead engine..no oil, outta gas... a pipe fell off, ignition broken,, u need a new car, ur car is crappy....lots of things it could be.

Changing fuel filter?1992 toyota paseo?

Were is my fuel filter located, and could I change it myself? I havent changed it in 6 years, but getttting low gas mileage, any ideas how easy it would be for me to change it? I have basic mechanical skills.|||it%26#039;s under the hood on teh driver%26#039;s side, I believe its black and has 2 hoses sticking out from the top %26amp; bottom, and is in a hold down.

Drop in a bottle of fuel injector cleaner as well.|||should be near the tank under car along frame/ or near the firewall before the thottle body...they don%26#039;t nessarily need changing maybe just clean out... sand or other junk from tank in it..

Is changing a fuel filter on a 99 honda accord something i can do myself even if i dont know much about cars?

or do i have to take it to the mechanic?|||you have piror experience on technican? no, then take it to someone who knows that stuff|||I don%26#039;t know about the 99 Accord, but I have found that changing a fuel filter can be a fairly tough job. The filter on many cars is in a tight space, you really should have flare nut wrenches, and there is the possibility of messing up a fuel line. I have been working on my own cars for a long time and I still am not comfortable changing my fuel filter on all my vehicles.

What fuse do i pull when changing my fuel filter on a 95 subaru impreza? (I know its under hood, but which one?

I don%26#039;t have the car manual...I just bought it used a week ago, so I have no clue as to which fuse under the hood to pull to release the fuel pressure.|||if you leave the key in the off position your gonna be fine, but you may want to unhook the - cable on the battery.you may need an antitheft radio code if you do that.|||pulling the fuse to change the fuel filter is not necessary trust me. and just pulling a fuse will not relieve the fuel pressure all it will do is disable the fuel pump from running when the key is turned on all you really need to do is turn the car off wait about ten minutes and remove the fuel filter, you are going to lose some fuel that%26#039;s just the nature of the beast.

How do you relieve the fuel pressure when changing the fuel filter?

On a %26#039;98 Chevy 1500 pickup? Do you just not start the truck for a day or so?|||residual pressure is truly not enough to cause a problem. just wear your glasses and all should be fine. i have done thousands of them over the years.never had a problem. |||thats one way but its just easier to save the fuel that falls off so just take it out|||That%26#039;s the easiest way and requires no extra tools. Just let it sit overnight and change the filter the next day. If you would rather do it the same day, let it sit for a few hours. You will still get some fuel out of the line no matter how long you wait.|||either through the schrader valve, or just loosen the filter and let it spray until the pressure is gone. Another way is to disable the fuel pump and run the engine until it stalls.|||i believe you unscrew the fuel cap and start the engine to decrease pressure

How important is changing your fuel filter?

The owner%26#039;s manual said to change it at 60,000 miles. I drive a 2003 Ford Focus with a 2.0 DOHC I-4. I didn%26#039;t change it. Are they expensive? Will my engine erupt in a fireball if I don%26#039;t change it?|||On a scale of 1 to 5; with 5 being the most important, changing the fuel filter is about a 4.

At 60k miles, your focus should more on regular oil %26amp; filter changes and other preventive maintenance.

The fuel filter is not expensive and should be easy to replace. Your engine is not likely to suffer any damage (erupt in a fireball) if you don%26#039;t change it.

Check here for more information and discuss issues with other Focus owners:http://www.fordforum.com/m_20137/tm.htm

Good luck.|||It%26#039;s important to get it done at the proper intervals, usually 30 60 and 90 and then from that point on.|||While I don%26#039;t think it will cause your engine to burst into flames I do believe that changing it will help to increase your gas mileage and it will help you engine to last longer.|||I had a Plymouth Sundance and decided to obey the owner%26#039;s manual. I asked a mechanic to change the fuel filter. It cost me about $70. The car ran terrible for many months after that. Sure wish I had never done it!

Now I%26#039;m back to the old wisdom: %26quot;Don%26#039;t fix it if it ain%26#039;t broke.%26quot;|||Please do not worry. Nothing will go wrong with your engine and it will NOT erupt in a fireball.

Air filters are not expensive, and since I do not know your market I cannot comment on the price.

Air filters merely clean the air entering your engine by removing sand and dust which are abrasive in nature when they enter the insides of an engine. Delaying the change will only result in a bit of rich fuel mixture, since the shortage of air (with a choked filter) will tend to draw in more fuel per each engine cycle. I would suggest that you change the air filter at your convenience as soon as possible, yet do not worry about it unduly.

In our part of the world if we do not wish to change the air filter, we merely remove it and blow compressed air from inside out which blows out the deposits and makes it good for a few more miles. But we do change it subsequently.|||Your car won%26#039;t blow up or anything, but if you fail to replace the filter, impurities will eventually find their way into the fuel lines, the injectors, etc... It is considerably less expensive to replace the fuel filter as opposed to replacing or repairing fuel system components.

Question on changing a fuel filter?

I have a 1989 cutlass ceira oldsmobile (3.3 Liter) and I want to change the fuel filter. When I turn off the engine will I have pressure in the fuel line near the filter that is located near the gas tank?

Please give me any tips on how to do this.|||Yes, but as you slowly turn the wrenches to loosen the fuel filter lines, the gas will simply start squirting out. It won%26#039;t keep draining for long. Wear safety glasses and rubber gloves. You can also press in the center pin on the fuel pressure schrader valve (a tire type valve) located on the fuel injection rail on top of the engine to relieve the pressure. Use a rag to soak up any fuel.|||i would think so just loosing nut very slowly with rag round it careful you dont get in eyes

Have 1995 blazer won't start after changing fuel filter?

have replaced fuel filter tried to start acted like no was not getting spark. replaced pick-up coil under rotor cap and replaced coil. what else would cause it not to start?|||The engine will still start and run with the filter in backwards,it just won%26#039;t run right. Is this regular maintenance,or was there a problem to begin with? Either way, have someone listen for the fuel pump to run with the key turned to the run position. The system has a relay to prime fuel pressure for two seconds. If the pump is grinding or not running,you%26#039;ll need to check for voltage and ground or replace the pump.Assuming you have the 4.3L engine,you%26#039;ll need at least 55psi. fuel pressure for the engine to start.Thats minimum!|||you may have a clogged fuel line, if not try taking it to a shpo.|||you put the filter in backwards!! there is an arrow on the filter that shows the fuel flow direction!! reverse the filter and it will fly again!!|||it is very likely that you installed the filter backwards double check then check for fuel pressure.

Cost of changing fuel filter?

How much should I expect to pay to have the fuel filter changed on a 2000 Mustang V-6?|||Well, the fuel filter itself only costs about $10.00 from Ford, and the filter on your particular car is situated next to the fuel tank, above the axle where it is easy to access. I%26#039;m guessing @ 0.5 hours labour @ $100.00 per flat rate hour, you should be looking at about $60.00 TOTAL. Hope this helps.

ADDED: If you are going to attempt to replace the filter yourself, you are going to need the %26quot;coupler release%26quot; tools on your particular vehicle. A screwdriver only works on other models that use the %26quot;horseshoe clips%26quot; to retain the filter, which your car doesn%26#039;t use.|||You%26#039;re Welcome.

It%26#039;s a pretty simple job with the right tools.|||Actually, if you know which end of a screw driver to use........I%26#039;d just get the filter from autozone for $8 and take 15 min to change it yourself. This is probably the second easiest thing to do on a car.

Changing fuel filter on 2000 Chevy PU?

I ran my truck out of gas right at the pump and once it was fueled it would not fire.. if I held the gas pedal down it would start to catch but never fully fire.

I get the truck home, change the fuel filter thinking I just got something plugging it up, but with the new filter it does nothing. Any ideas other than fuel pump?? I don%26#039;t see how running out of gas would trash my fuel pump.. any ideas?|||The gas in the tank helps cool the fuel pump .Pour the gas out of your old fuel filter. If fine black particles come out its probably your fuel pump. You should hear the pump run for a few seconds when you turn the key on.

If you dont hear it check the fuse,

www.autozone.com has instructions for removing the fuel pump.|||the truck is fuel injected. If you floor it while starting it actually disables the ignition system to prevent it from starting. The fuel filter should not be the problem. You need to make sure the fuel pump is supplying proper pressure. Running a tank empty puts a severe strain on a fuel pump. If you have filled the tank up and can hear the pump run, keep cranking the engine and it should start. It might take a minute of cranking but it should start as long as you have fuel pressure. Just don%26#039;t even touch the gas pedal. That%26#039;s what fuel injection is for!|||If your truck was surging, like it was out of fuel before this happen, then its you fuel pump. That happen to my car one time. I thought it was also the fuel filter. Normally that is what you change first. take it to a garage and they can test your fuel pump

Changing my fuel filter, what do i do?

tomorrow im changing my fuel filter, but i heard you have to relive pressure from the fuel system, how do i do this?

any tips/hints?|||Remove the fuel filler cap to release the vapor pressure from the fuel tank.

Place a flat pan under the filter to catch the fuel which will come out when the lines are loosened, use two wrenches ( one on the hex on the filter - the other on the line nut ) to loosen the fuel lines, Remove the filter mounting bolt/screw if one exists. Reverse procedure to install new filter. Re-tighten the fuel cap.

Turn the ignition switch to the ON position without cranking the engine.

Wait 10 seconds. Switch the ignition OFF for 5 seconds. This will operate the in tank fuel pump to prime the fuel filter.

Start the engine, it may stumble for a few moments as any remaining air is purged out.|||You relieve the pressure by taking the gas cap off. When you%26#039;re done, just tighten the cap. Easy, right?|||When your car sits overnight or for a long period of time it will lose its pressure. Now when finished just turn the key on and off a few times to prime the lines.|||Near the air intake, the fuel line will usually has a fuel pressure test port. This port looks like it has a tire valve cap on it ( only the cap is larger ). cover or wrap this stem with a rag and depress the valve core. The fuel BUILT UP by the fuel pump will then bleed down. You should disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery before you start this job.

Question about how to release the fuel system pressure before changing the fuel filter in a vehicle?

i%26#039;ve been doing this for a long time ,you tell me if this is a good idea or not : when reading the instructions they always suggest to release the fuel system pressure before changing your fuel filter this is what i do: i open the gas tank cap and then introduce half way a medium size screw driver to keep the gas tank neck open,is this a good thing to do to keep the fuel system unpressurized or maybe this doesn%26#039;t make any sense to you, your opinion please, tanks in advance|||that does not release the fuel pressure. the best way is to remove the fuel pump fuse or relay and then crank the engine over for a few seconds. that will release any pressure so the fuel doesnt spray you in the face when you pop off the fuel line.|||if it is fuel injected, on the fuel rail near the motor where it splits or near the first injector is a valve.that is where you release the pressure.they recommend the fuel pressure tester to release pressure..but you can use a screw driver and a rag to release it.you wrap the line with the rag and put the screw driver in the valve with the rag covering it so gas does not spray all over. remember the pressure is 14 to 22 lbs so gas is going to shoot out|||If you have a schrader valve type fitting on the fuel rail that%26#039;s used for attaching a fuel pressure gauge, then press the center pin in to release some pressure with a rag to catch the fuel. If not, then I%26#039;d just gradually remove the filter connectors. Wear safety glasses and rubber gloves.|||What you%26#039;re doing will not relieve pressure in the fuel line. But unless you%26#039;re in a diesel, the fuel pressure is nothing to worry about. You can relieve pressure by pulling the fuel pump fuse and running the engine %26#039;till it quits, or you can just put a rag over the fitting so it won%26#039;t squirt in your eyes, and you%26#039;ll just get a few tablespoons of gas on your hand.|||Steven%26#039;s suggestion is right on.

Also, the fuel pressure at the rail is at least 40 PSI. Not something I would care to catch with a rag as yor skin absorbs gasline very easily. YUM!

The pressure that is to be released is between the pump and injectors, so leaving the fuel cap off only makes you feel better after clicking your heels a few times and ending up in Kansas.

Will changing my Fuel Filter give me better Fuel Efficiency and provide better Milliage?

I have a 2003 GMC Envoy... I have changed the spark plugs... use good Gas and Synthetic Oil... still getting crappy milliage... my mechanic is suggesting I change my fuel filter but my Truck runs fine... does not stutter or have any loss of power.... what to do?|||There%26#039;s several things you can do. First is, you need to understand you%26#039;re driving an Envoy. Good gas-mileage for that vehicle doesn%26#039;t exist. Better gas mileage is possible though. Change your fuel filter, you should do this at least every time you change your timing belt (which is about 50,000 miles). Then change the timing of the car for a higher octane gasoline. Higher octane gas will burn more efficiently, and if your timing is changed for higher octane you will get the most gas mileage out of your truck. You will have to change the timing on the timing belt to match 93 octane, though. Also, make sure your fuel line isn%26#039;t clogged, and try a nice (Not cheap like STP, or Valvoline) fuel cleaner. Clean the fuel injecters with that as well by hand. Once everything is clean you should get much better gas mileage, especially if you tune your engine to 93 octane.|||Won%26#039;t hurt to change it and have your tire pressure checked regularly. Tires can lose half of their pressure before they look low. Also take your foot out of the gas especially in stop and go traffic. Also you could try buying a computer programmer that will allow you to use premium gas and add the extra fuel mileage, they range anywhere from 300-400 dollars.|||It%26#039;s probaly not your fuel filter, but its always good to change to prevent any problems. Crappy milliage can be from city driving, low tire pressure, using 4x4, Not to mention its a GM, don%26#039;t believe what they tell you about litres %26amp; miles per gallon....I have a 2005 GMC jimmy and if its a 4.3 L engine like mine, I get 400km per tank..|||of course it will make a difference because ur fuel will be more pure

with more pure fuel it increases the fuel efficiency because there will be good combustion

and i guess it will give a better mileage|||Probably not your fuel filter then. Try some fuel system cleaner(Sea Foam) and a new air filter.|||Fuel filter has nothing to do with fuel economy.

try a can of fuel injection cleaner.

What are the precautions (maybe dealing w/pressure) before changing a fuel filter on a 03 ford explorer xlt?

i have seen how to change the filter but seen some vague blogs mentioning pressure or something...? how do you prepare the other parts of the vehicle before removing the old filter? |||Simply loosening the gas cap wil not help. There should be a purge valve on the fuel rail that will allow the pressure to be released.|||Pull fuel pump relay from the under hood relay box, crank vehicle, keep cranking until engine stops turning.

Fuel pressure is relieved.

Easy enough? Yes!

I do not know where this myth about the gas cap comes from. Fuel pressure--about 60 PSI of it--is not affected by opening the gas cap as the pressure between the fuel pump all the way up to the injectors will not be bled off!||| Remove the gas cap so less pressure in gas system and make sure you use a container to catch the gas that spills out of the line, plus be sure you re-clipthe filter right and a special tool can be bought for gas filter clips at most part stores.|||Pinch the line if you can see any rubber line use vice grips to close the line before and after the filter if not just loosen it enough to bleed off the pressure.|||Loosen the gas cap then just loosen the line enough for the excess fuel and pressure to dribble out, then remove the line completely. GOOD LUCK!!|||just open the gas cap

Anything special to changing a fuel filter on a 1994 Ford E350 diesel?

Where is the filter located? Is the fuel line under pressure? Do I need special tools?|||it depends on the engine.. the older ones ( 7.3 liter direct injection, no turbo)have a screw on fuel with a water separator on it. its easy, unscrew it, change the filter ( dont forget to put the bowl back on the filter) fill it with clean fuel and put it back on. if its a 7.3L indirect injection ( with a turbo, called a Powerstroke diesel) the fuel filter is a cartridge type inside a housing on top of the engine. no special tools, just remember to drain the fuel from the housing. theres a drain cock on the driverside of the housing. fill it a little less than halfwayfull of clean fuel, put the new cartridge in install the cap with a new o ring. Let her rip. it will probably stall or run rough for a second until the fuel system purges the air, though. 1994 was a cross over year and good ole ford used both engines that model year. i work on these engines everyday, i ve got a whole fleet of them. if you need help, email me dieselskidz28@yahoo.com|||on top of the engine and no special tools|||not able to help-just found this and trying to learn how to use answers--sorry|||it is on top of the engine. it looks like an oil filter. you just unscrew the old one, fill the new one with some diesel fuel, and screw it back in place. start the engine and check for leaks.|||Don%26#039;t forget to %26quot;prime%26quot; the fuel system after replacing it.

What should I know about changing the fuel filter in 95 Geo prism?

Where do I start? Where is the filter located? I think that I need to disconnect the negitive battery cable, take out the fuel relay from the hood, find the freakin filter, disconnect the hose from the old filter, replace and put everything back. Am I even close? What should I look out for? I always find the bad things the hard way. Do I need any special tools before I tear stuff apart?|||Hey DA:

First, the fuel filter is located just under the brake booster/master cylinder. That is, looking at the engine from the front, the brake stuff is located on the right side at the %26#039;firewall%26#039;. Get a flash light and look down there, follow the fuel line and you will see the filter.

Don%26#039;t worry about battery, relay or any thing else. If there is a fuel pressure, you will bleed it off as soon as the line is loosened. But you should wear glasses or goggles just to be extra safe. Not a big deal - don%26#039;t worry about a stream of fuel hitting you or anything.

The filter is held to the car with two 10mm bolts. These can be removed with a box end wrench. The top line going into the filter is 11mm. Best to use a flare wrench so you don%26#039;t round off the bolt.

The bottom line requires an 11mm crowfoot (offset) wrench. I use a 3/8 socket with the crowfoot on a 3 inch extension. The problem here is that you need to take off the bottom fitting from underneath the car (dirty Japs, why they make this so hard?). So you have to lift and support the car with jack stands.

On both the top and bottom, be very careful not to cross thread the fitting. Otherwise, you will have to replace the fuel line! This is no fun and will cost some bucks.

If you are not up to this, pay a shop $40-60 (plus cost of filter) to do the job. It is not that hard, but you need to have the tools and patience.

Good luck,

Marc

Changing fuel filter on nissan almera tino?

is it a straight swop when changing fuel filter on nissan almera tino diesel 2.2 or could air get into pipes when they are undone, do i have to bleed anything, is it a difficult job. thanks.

vicki|||I would change the car!|||i just did it on my vw it was underneath my car and i simply changed it with a screwdriver and pliers.|||It is just a straight swap. Although you will probably introduce air into the pipes this will self bleed at the engine as the air will rise to the highest point and eventually escape via the engine. Usually the worst you can expect is a little trouble starting or slightly erratic running for a few seconds after changing it, but this will be short lived.|||Try :

almeraownersclub.com

nissanforum.co.uk

I hope this helps.|||It%26#039;s pretty much a straight swap. if the filter is in a position where it%26#039;s hanging down the you could fill the new filter up with Automatic transmission fluid to prime the filter. any other air should bleed itself out. there is a slight chance that air may get trapped near the fuel injectors . If the rough running after you%26#039;ve changed the filter doesn%26#039;t subside after a few minutes then you can crack each injector open where it connects to the injector and wait till nothing but pure fuel comes out then tight and repeat the process for each of the injectors. But the kind of car you have you shouldn%26#039;t have to do this.|||let garage to do it.

I own a 2.4L Toyota diesel and may have contaminated the fuel when changing a filter, how will I know?

Changing out the fuel filter I filled it back up with diesel that may have had dirt in it. How will I know if I%26#039;ve gotten debris into the fuel system? Will it clog my injectors, could it possibly make it to the pistons? It probably wasn%26#039;t over half a gallon but it may have had some dirt in it. I just can%26#039;t afford a rebuild at this time.|||From what you are saying you are worried that the fuel tank has dirt in it, well the good news is that the dirt is on the right side of the fuel filter!

You%26#039;re fuel filter will stop the dirt getting from the fuel tank to the engine.

However if you are really paranoid then drain the tank out, re-seal, fill it with 3 gallons of clean diesel, bounce the truck up and down by hand and re-drain the fuel. Now re-fill with a couple of gallons of clean diesel and rive to the gas station to fill up properly and your done!|||if your that worried about it dont start it and take the filter back out and pop a new oneback in, if the filter doesnt collect it , it would prossibly clog the injectors

How many mpg will you save by changing your fuel filter?

Just changed my fuel filter on 1994 crown victoria 4.6l V8 I think it was the first time it has been changed it has 120.000 miles on it the old filter was very dirty thick black stuff in it.|||HI

You well see NO Mileage improvement with a fuel filter change.. but it well save the fuel pump from working so hard and you won%26#039;t get a lean condition that can burn a hole in a piston. Now an air filter change can give a little better MPG if the one on it is dirty cause the motor well breath better.Thur and clean filter.

good luck

tim|||prob like 3%. you%26#039;ll probably be saving your fuel pump too.|||It should give you about 5-10% improvement.|||OMG, people are crazy. You%26#039;ll see no improvement. None. But the car may run better if the filter is clogged. Clogged filters cause drivability and starting problems, not mileage problems. Changing an old O2 sensor can often increase mileage. For a 1994 Vic though, don%26#039;t expect too much if anything.

97 Chevy 1500 5.7L Vortex will not start after changing fuel filter and pump.?

My truck started to start hard. Then it got to the point where I needed to prime the throttle body with gas to start. After a day, I would need to prime again. Then it would not start at all. I changed the fuel filter and now the fuel pump with the same problem. I find the spark from the coil wire is very weak and yellow/orange in color. Any clues?|||you may need to replace the coil or check the grounding points on your engine|||Most likely the fuel metering valve has went out. It is located under the upper intake (plenum). Rather expensive common problem, part list is around $400.|||if spark is orange, that is a sign of a weak spark or a large gap that the coil is trying to bridge. on many of the gm cars, if the computer does not see a spark it will not trigger the injectors. with out spark the computer may not send a signal to the fuel pump relay.

Changing the fuel filter of my 89 astro van and dont know how to depressurize. How do i do this?

On the box of the new filter it says to depressureize the fuel before i change anything. How do i do that?|||i own a shop and all you have to do is take the gas cap off of it ,and you,ll hear it release the pressure on it,it will still have a small amount in it when you remove the filter but it will only shoot out a very small spurt of fuel ,just don%26#039;t be laying directly under it when you loosen the filter up on it,some gas will run out, because of whats in the line, but don%26#039;t worry it will stop, and then change the filter and that%26#039;s it,be sure and tighten the gas cap back up on it,and that%26#039;s about it,your done with it,good luck,i hope this helps.|||your welcome.

|||Simple, just open the gas cap. Sometimes pressure builds up on a hot day and taking your fuel line off may have pressurized gas squirt out. Anyway, Just take gas cap off or loose.|||You should be able to do this by finding the fuel pump fuse and pulling it, letting the engine run until it dies. There may be a small amount of pressure left in the system, so no open flames! Keep a rag handy to catch any excess fuel. Just becareful.|||Usually on most cars you pull the fuse for the Fuel pump or fuel pump relay. Then you crank the engine two or three times. If the engines starts, it will die soon since fuel pump is inactive. Now the fuel system is depressurized. You can go ahead and change the fuel filter. however, there will be some fuel in the filter and in the lines so make sure you have couple of rags. Be careful no sparking devices close by and no smoking.|||In a fuel injected vehicles the fuel pump is in the gas tank. Even when the vehicle is shut off and the battery is disconnected, there will still be fuel under pressure in the lines , from the gas tank to all the way to the fuel rail and injectors. If you buy a repair manual it will tell you how to depressurize the fuel system (so gas doesn%26#039;t spray every where when you remove the fitting on your filter!!!). A lot of times the procedure involves cycling one of your injectors a few times to relieve the pressure. Just get a Chiltons or Haynes manual, it will describe exactly how it%26#039;s done.

Be safe!

What benefits will I gain from changing my fuel filter?

Hello, my Camaro has 103,000 miles and this weekend Im going to have my fuel filter changed. I believe it%26#039;s in line under my car.

what performance increase could I gain by doing this. When I put my key and turn the car on, it starts up right away all the time....|||By changing the fuel filter at the factory recommend time intervals you help to:

Increase the fuel pump life (for it does not have to work harder pumping the fuel past a dirty/clogged filter).

Increase the engine life by not having the engine run leaner than it should with less fuel because a restricted fuel filter.

Some claim increased miles per gallon.|||You won%26#039;t likely notice anything, but at the very least, fuel will be delivered more quickly under acceleration. If the filter was clogged, your car wouldn%26#039;t run properly, but it%26#039;s not good to let it get to that point.

Changing a fuel filter, can I run the car out of gas to relieve pressure?

Im changing the fuel filter on my 94 pontiac grand prix.

I tried pulling the fuse for the fuel pump but the car still runs for some reason.

I dont want to disconnect the relay.

SO MY QUESTION IS; can I run the car out of gas to relieve fuel pressure to change the fuel filter?|||dont do that/wrap rag at fuel filter and loosen/|||Just disconnect the relay.|||Open the filler cap?|||Under the hood, find the fuel line, and there%26#039;s a pressure relief valve on it. Very similar to the valve stem on your tires. Place an old rag over the valve and open it up, let the pressure drop, then change the filter. If you can%26#039;t find the valve, then take that rag to the hose connection on the filter and try to catch as much as you can when you pull the hose off. I do not recommend running the car out of gas, because when it dies you still have a lot of gas in the line, as well as pressure - just not enough pressure to atomize it and force it into the engine. Good luck!!!|||just break the filter loose and wait a second or to for the gas to stop pooring out, then continue|||* Relay as stated above *

Even when your engine cuts out, there will still be some pressure

in the fuel filter. Have plenty of rags ready and remove these

lines slowly, ( small turns ). Don%26#039;t forget to loosen the gas cap

and tighten it when you are done. Also, make sure the car cools

off a bit before you tackle this project...it%26#039;s safer..

Good Luck|||It doesn%26#039;t matter what you choose, there will be a fuel leak when you remove the filter.

You can slowly loosen the filter so it doesn%26#039;t spray you in the mouth or eye but make sure there is no ignition source near by, a hot incandescent light bulb will pop and start a fire in an instant.

You can lower the fuel pressure by removing the fuel pump relay but It will not amount to much.

Good luck.|||I think some models have a backup fuse. If you can unplug the wire that connects to the pump that would work. Or you can re move the negetive battery cable which shuts down everything.|||the way i did it on my oldsmobile was i took the gas cap off.

Changing fuel filter on 97 Saturns SC2. Where is the fuel pump fuse?

I need to relieve the pressure in the fuel lines before i disconnect the fuel filter but i can%26#039;t figure out which fuse to pull. There are too many acronyms on the fuse box cover.|||It%26#039;s a 10amp located in the instrument panel junction block (accesible from the right side of console). Also in the same panel is the fuel pump relay which you can just pull out...

Run the engine till it stalles out.|||I dont know that Ive ever seen a fused fuel pump. The owners mannual should have better view of what fuse does what. Ive never removed a fuse- when you turn the fitting to loosen the filter, it will bleed the pressure and when its gone, remoe the filter. Most are under the car so wait until the engine and exhast has cooled off before removing the fitting and wear safety glasses so no gas blows into your eyes in case you loosen it to much.TtT

PS- if you find a fuse- pull it- start the car and wait until it dies from lack of gas then remove the filter. I am going to ask my buddy(professional mechanic) about fused fuel pumps.

What the proper way to relieve fuel pressure in a 99 saturn sl2 prior to changing the fuel filter?

I have heard to remove the fuse for the fuel pump and let the car run until it dies because of lack of pressure. I have also heard that i need to release the schrader valve and let it depressurize.. I also know that the saturn fuel filter is extra expensive because it has a built in fuel pressure regulator, but i don%26#039;t think that will help me in the changing process. help?|||put on eye glasses. and use the schrader valve on top side of engine. good luck with your fuel filter.. and make sure you have the disconnect tool.. it%26#039;s a a mass of lines that weave in and out of the back side of the engine. |||Take gas cap off! Wait about 30 seconds!

How Long Does It Take to Get Air Out of Lines After Changing Fuel Filter?

I am assuming you need to refill the lines and the new filter. How long does usually take?|||Hi, I just did this job yesterday on my truck. If your vehicle is fuel injected it is instant. Fuel injected cars run with high pressure and as soon as you turn the key to on, it will pressurize the lines with gas. If your car is older and has a mechanical fuel pump, you will have to crank the engine for while to get all the air out of the lines, but not much more than a minute or two.|||What he said, just leave the ignition on but not started 30 seconds, check under where you repaired just in case. Then start her up.

Can changing a fuel filter cause the fuel pump to break?

I know it sounds stupid to me too, but I heard somewhere that if your fuel filter is changed it can break the pump because the pump is used to working with a clogged fuel filter. Is this true? I just don%26#039;t want to be worried that I could be messing up the fuel pump.|||No,changing and in line fuel filter will not cause the pump to %26quot;break%26quot;,

Its designed as a maintenence item that can be changed at certain intervals.

If the fuel pump goes out,it wont be because of changing the filter.|||Well if you don%26#039;t charge the fuel filter and your vehicle requires it yes you can because you will be running your pump dry and will overheat and die. A few years back shell was using an additive that ruined pumps on many Chrysler vehicles the reason was it would dry out the filters and the pumps would run dry overheat and die. Problem has been fixed but that shows that it can happen. The tranny thing someone mentioned that is crap, no matter what as long as you replace the old fluid you will always have a working tranny, even if you only change it once every 300,000 miles would let it go that long but get my point.|||%26quot;Sorry but that doesn%26#039;t Happen!%26quot;|||Its the opposite. Not changing your fuel filter will surely destroy your pump. Some brand new cars do not have a serviceable filter but if your does change it.|||I have heard that about tranny fluid.. if you run it way too long without changing it, and then change it your tranny goes (true) but never about fuel filters...

Unless some cars have the fuel filter built into the pup - but never heard of that either... specially since most are in tank these days...

Is there any important steps when changing a fuel filter on a 1994 Subaru Impreza?

I know what is the fuel filter.

Is there any special steps involved with changing it?|||nothing to terribly difficult about that filter, i have done several of them over the years. make sure that you do not mix up the lines, if you tear the short one replace it, be very careful not to tear te longer one. that little plastic clip that holds the supply line to the filter , put it back on. other than that, just use caution, and a pair of pliers works pretty well at geting the hoses off if you are gentle about it. |||Well if you mean change the filtrer your self i would said no, sometimes when ppl try to fix they car or change an item they do it but some times wrong, get profecinal help and pay $xx, is betther that than pay $100 + trying to get fixed what you broke with out know it. But if you are going to chnage it your self on youtube are some good tutorials.

How to release the fuel pressure in a 96 cavalier? for changing the fuel filter?

Hello, I plan on changing my fuel filter and I pulled the fuse out for the pump and it idled for about a half hour and then I had to shut it off because I didn%26#039;t have anymore time. How long does it take for the fuel in the lines to be burned off after you take the fuse out or is there a different way? Thanks.|||Just start to take the line off and let what%26#039;s in the line drain out, that%26#039;s all I ever do. Just make sure to catch the fuel in drain pan of some sort so you don%26#039;t have a puddle of flammable fuel laying there.|||At a low fuel rate like Idle it can cause a siphin effect. But if you rev it up you will burn the gas out at a faster rate and it will sputter and die. You cannot get everything out. You can also take off the gas cap. That will relive any pressure that might be in the tank. Also you may have pulled the wrong fues dubble check.|||Pull the fuel pump relay in the underhood relay/fuse box.

Crank engine for a few seconds and let it dry out.

Pressure is gone.

I hope you just pulled the wrong relay if your car kept running, otherwise, you have other issues! Like elctrical issues.

Also, pulling the gas cap does nothing to help you as the fuel in between the pump and the injectors is what is under pressure. Not the fuel tank.|||A 4 cylinder may run a long time before the pressure goes down enough to kill the engine. You may have pulled the wrong fuse. Listen near the tank to hear if the pump is running when you turn the key. Might need a helper here.

There is a fuel pump kill switch that activates in an accident. It may be in the trunk. Look in the owner%26#039;s manual if you have one. Hit it with your hand and the reset button will pop up, shutting off the fuel pump. Press the reset after you are done.|||go under the hood and find the fuel rail...on the fuel rail the is a schrader valve..it looks like a valve stem for a tire....take the cap off and press the valve core with a skrew driver...this will releave the pressure.....gas will still be in the lines but not under pressure so it will drip out....make sure the car is off befor pressing the valve core|||Cover the line with a rag and crack it open . Quick and dirty way

Can a battery cause your fuel pump to stop working after changing fuel filter?

96 chevy subr died tighten battery cables ran fine restarted the truck and put it gear died again someone said to change fuel filter did so, fuel pump ran for a few seconds truck still wouldnt crank now the pump stop working altogther|||No. When you first turn the key on the pump only runs for 2 seconds to pressurize the system then shuts off. It will only pump with the engine cranking and while its running.

I%26#039;m confused by your question though. What was the original problem? The engine didn%26#039;t crank over from loose battery cables?....or.....It keeps dying because you really do need a fuel pump but tightened the battery cables?|||seems that you have a short, try using a multimeter in serial to check pump amperage, so you would know if is good or not, try also drop voltage on your battery.|||You make it sound like the truck has a electric fuel pump, There is a high pressure cut off on electric fuel pump,to stop the pump if the engine does not start. Why did you have to be messing with the battery cables. It now could be any thing. why was the engine running while you were tighten the cables, you could have burn out a fuse or something. start over, and check all. You can leak down the fuel pressure at a fitting on the rail, but if you do not know what you are doing you could start a fire. Does the battery still have a charge? If it does then the fuel pump should be working When you say the truck will not crank do you mean the engine will not turn over or it will not run? If it does not turn over, then recheck the cable clamp and battery. if it will not run, i can not help with what you have giving me to work with.|||No it can not.

You change the filter. But was the pump workihg correctly before?A clogged filter can kill a fuel pump.If you blow through the inlet of a good one, it has no restiction at all.

How do i start my diesel truck after changing fuel filter?

i have a 1998 dodge ram 2500 diesel. i changed the fuel filter yesterday and then it wouldnt start. i filled the fuel filter canister with diesel but i know i still have some air in the lines that isnt coming out and it still wont start. what can i do to solve this problem?|||bleed the injecters|||on my 2500 Chev diesel I have a primer that I pump 6-7 times to prime (get the air out) after I change fuel filters|||Rob if there is air still in the fuel line you will ned to bleed it out. Make sure your fuel filter is filled all the way to the top with diesel. Then there will be a fuel line that runs into the fuel pump. Crack the line open about a half a turn. Once you do that have someone roll the engine over and over. This will let the air bleed out of the fuel lines. Keep rolling the engine over until the engine fires off. Once it fires off close the fuel line off while it is running. hope this answers you question|||If the above answer doesn%26#039;t work.crack the fuel lines one at a time at the injector and crank it over to get the air out.helps to have a battery charger connected and don%26#039;t crank allot so your starter doesn%26#039;t overheat.ase tech|||The above answer is the correct way for you to get all the air out. But..... if it is cold where you are, and you dont feel like breaking lines loose try this method that I have used on my 2000 Cummins. Fill the filter completely, turn the key to the on position, wait for the fuel pump to quit running, bump the key forward real quick, the fuel pump will run again for 8-10 seconds. Do this 2 or 3 times and then try to start. If it wont start do it again. This has worked for me everytime I change my filter.Sometimes I have to do it twice, but, once is usually enough.|||you may need to refill the filter bowl with diesel. take the cap off carefully, add diesel, about 2/3 full and replace the filter cap. try starting. you may have to do this a couple times. also check your hpop (high pressure oil pump) for oil level. it is on the top front of motor. remove the fill plug and make sure oil is within 1%26quot; of top. you need this full as it provides oil pressure to open the fuel injectors. excessive cranking can drain it.

i%26#039;m guessing that the truck ran fine until you changed the fuel filter. when changing try to remove slowly and let fuel drain from old filter back into filter bowl and when putting new filter in do this slowly too so as to keep from spilling fuel out of bowl.|||find the bleeder valve on the injector pump turn the key on don%26#039;t start it and the fuel pump should bleed itself

Im trying to change the fuel filter in my1998 gmcsafari.I pulled the fuel pump fuse to relieve the pressure while engine is running but after I remove the fuse the engine just keeps running.Afraid to remove the filter because I think its still pressurized.Any suggestions please!|||I%26#039;d suggest pulling the relay rather than the fuse, but it will continue to run for a bit until it has used the fuel in the line. Just let it run until it dies.|||i wouldn%26#039;t be afraid of the pressure in the filter, is in minimal, it will not cause any damage to you or anything else, when removing the filter there will be a little squirt of petrol, but nothing massive, so dont worry.

there is no need to depressurize the fuel filter

hope this helps|||Just go to the fuel rail and remove the cap on the fuel rail valve to get the pressure out of the system.
